COURSE DESCRIPTION The 2018 Update in General Practice continuing education program will mark the 30th annual AEGD sponsored program. This is also the inaugural year of renaming the course The Frank Brantley Update in General Practice. The program will offer a concise and systematic synopsis of current trends in general dentistry based on evidence from clinical practice and recent research. This course has been specifically designed for the dental professional who desires a comprehensive update of current technologies, techniques to diagnose and manage various clinical problems. This year s program will cover a broad area of current topics in sleep medicine, pathology, oral medicine, trauma, management of acute dental infections, prosthodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, prevention strategies, radiology, as well as the latest information on opioid prescribing. This course will take place over 2 days and provide up to 15 hours of continuing education credit (as well as meet the NC opioid course requirement) and will meet the NC License CE requirements for licensure renewal. Presentations will be in lecture format with 10-15 minutes of Q&A following each presentation. We are also very excited to recognize Dr. Frank Brantley during this course. Dr. Brantley is the founder of the AEGD program, which began in 1987. In 2017, we marked a major milestone for the School of Dentistry s Advanced Education in General Dentistry program - 30 years! It has been over 3 decades since Dr. Frank Brantley s vision of starting the school s Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program became a reality. Dr. Frank Brantley served in many capacities at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry during his many years of service after he completed his DDS at the UNC SOD in 1979. However, Dr. Brantley is best known in his role as the Founder and Director of the AEGD program. He was also responsible for development and organization of the longstanding Update in General Practice Continuing Education Course. Dr. Brantley also received many awards during his time as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences including the Jim and Isabel Harrell Distinguished Professorship in Family Dentistry and the Richard Hunt Memorial Award for teaching excellence. At his retirement, former Dean Jane Weintraub stated, The reputation that Frank has for producing outstanding dental research and being an exceptional dental instructor precedes him. He has been an asset to our school for many years and I thank him greatly for his service. TIME & LOCATION The program will be held at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. Registration will begin at 7:30am. The program will be held from 8:00am - 5:45pm on Thursday and 8:00am - 4:30pm on Friday. The Friday Center is located on Friday Center Drive just off Highway 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. A continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided with your paid registration.
