This fall, the Sutheast Reginal Institute n Deafness (SERID), t be held in Jacksn, Mississippi n Octber 8-11, 2017, ges even further. The prgram includes frward-thinking natinal experts and emerging innvatrs wh will fcus n state-f-the art appraches, new prgram develpment, supprt fr new strategies and services, and research in areas nt previusly addressed. Yes, it s definitely time t leave the bx behind and explre new strategies that will result in successful utcmes. The Sutheast Reginal Institute n Deafness has a strng histry f prviding high-quality educatinal and prfessinal develpment activities t clleagues wh wrk with cnsumers wh are deaf, hard f hearing, deafblind, and late-deafened. These cnsumers cmprise a lw-incidence ppulatin, and this type f targeted training is nt generally available thrugh the nging training pprtunities prvided thrugh state and lcal agencies. In fact, this type f training is nt nly unique within the sutheast regin, but it is unique acrss the entire cuntry. SERID is prud f the strng supprt prvided by the state vcatinal rehabilitatin ffices in the regin fr ver 45 years. Cnference participants generally include vcatinal rehabilitatin persnnel, emplyment specialists, educatrs, human services staff, transitin specialists, mental health prfessinals, sign language interpreters, cnsumers, and ther interested stakehlders. Bringing tgether this mix f clleagues creates a unique pprtunity fr prfessinals t learn new infrmatin, exchange ideas acrss disciplines, and create relatinships that may result in future cllabratins that benefit peple wh are deaf r hard f hearing. Whether yu have many years f experience wrking with this ppulatin r if yu are new in yur rle, the cnference ffers valuable infrmatin and resurces t address yur needs.
