This plicy stresses that the gd health and well-being f all children in ur care is paramunt. All practitiners are aware f current and up t date guidance surrunding all types f illness and cnditins. 1.2. This infrmatin is up t date thrugh clse cntact with the HPA and HPT. 1.3. We wrk in clse partnership with parents and carers t makes sure that infrmatin frm the setting t hme and vice versa is prperly cmmunicatin and shared. 1.4. A cmprehensive list f illnesses and cnditinsalng with any recmmendatins frm the HPA and recmmended child absence perids is clearly displayed fr all visitrs t see. 1.5. If expsed early in pregnancy (the first 20 weeks) r very late (the last 3 weeks) the G.P and Midwife shuld be infrmed. A bld test may be carried ut t check immunity. Shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken px virus and therefre anyne wh has nt had chickenpx is ptentially vulnerable t the infectin if they have clse cntact with a case f shingles. The Manager r Persn in Charge f the Setting must cntact the HPU fr additinal advice. This is a ntifiable illness and must be reprted t Ofsted and t the HPA. It is preventable by immunisatin and the HPU will cntact all families invlved. Glandular Fever Nne Abut 50% f children acquire the disease by the time that they are five years ld. Many adults cntract the illness withut realising. Head Lice Nne Treatment is nly recmmended in cases where live head lice and definitely been seen. Cases f vmiting and diarrhea) the key practitiner r anther member f yur base rm team, will cntact yu t advise yu f their cnditin. 2.2 The Manager r persn in charge f the setting may authrise a telephne call t be made t NHS 111 t seek further advice frm medical prfessinals. This advice is then fllwed and a recrd is made f bth the decisin made and actin taken. This recrd, prepared n an Incident Recrd sheet, is then shared with the parent and carer upn cllectin wh is asked t sign t cnfirm that they have read it. 2.3 The Manager r the persn in charge f the setting will make a decisin, in the best interest f the child and the ther children, as t whether yur child must be cllected. 2.4 Yur child will be made cmfrtable and cnsled by their key practitiner r anther member f staff wh is clse t them until they are picked up. It may be necessary t keep yur child away frm their peers t minimise the risk f infectin being passed t ther children. 2.5 If yu cannt cllect yur child, yu must arrange fr smene else t immediately cllect them.
2.6 Yu shuld always seek further medical advice frm yur G.P r an alternative medical prfessinal if yur child is unwell. 3. Cases f vmiting and/r diarrhea 3.1 If yur child vmits then yu are cntacted and asked t immediately cllect them r arrange fr smene else t cllect them. If yur child is sick at hme the previus evening, we ask that yu d nt bring them t the Schlhuse fr 48 hurs frm the last time they are ill. 3.2 If yur child has three episdes f diarrhea f very lse stls in any 24 hur perid, yu will be cntacted and asked t immediately cllect them r arrange fr smene else t cllect them. This means if a child has ne incident f diarrhea in the afternn f ne day, ne at hme and ne the next day at 11.00 am, fr example, yu will be cntacted and asked t cllect yur child. If yur child has three episdes f diarrhea r very lse stls during the evening after they leave the Schlhuse, we ask that yu d nt bring yur child t the setting fr 48 hurs after the cessatin f symptms. Latest research (please see NHS Direct website: http//www.nhs.uk)shws there t be n prven link between teething and diarrhea. 3.3 Yur child will be made cmfrtable and cnsled by their key practitiner r anther member f staff wh is clse t them until they are picked up. It may be necessary t keep yur child away frm their peers t minimise the risk f infectin being passed t ther children. 3.4 A letter explaining ur plicy will be prvided t any parent r carer whse child has develped diarrhea r has vmited whilst in the setting. 3.4 Yu shuld keep yur child away frm the Schlhuse until their symptms have ceased fr 48 hurs. 3.5 We accept that parents and cares have very busy lives and ften have imprtant prfessinal and/r educatinal cmmitments that mean it is incnvenient t either cllect their child frm the setting r t keep their child at hme, but we ask fr yur understanding and cperatin in rder that we prtect all f ur very special children. 4. Actin taken when a child develps a temperature in the Schlhuse 4.1 Please see Prcedure fllwed when a child develps a temperature attached t this plicy. 4.2. Only ne dse f temperature cntrl r pain relief medicine will be administered in ne Nursery day. Any child wh develps a temperature that is reduced by temperature cntrl medicine and then rises again must be immediately cllect (see 2.5) 4.3. Parents shuld be reminded that administratin f Calpl r Ibuprfen culd mask systems f illness and if a child has a cnsistently high temperature apprpriate medical advice shuld be sught. 5. Cmmunicating utbreaks f illnesses in the Schlhuse
5.1 When there is an utbreak f any type f infectius illness, the Manager r persn in charge f the setting will always cmmunicate this infrmatin t parents and carers thrugh a letter that practitiners will ensure all families receive. 5.2 As much infrmatin will be passed t parents and carers abut the illness, ensuring that the child(ren) s identity is withheld and that ur Data Prtectin Plicy is upheld at all times. 6. Medical Cnditins 6.1 Any ther medical cnditin that is nt recrded as being transferable frm persn t persn cntact in an early years setting will nt be cmmunicated t parents and carers. 6.2 Advice n cmmunicating infrmatin abut as stated in 6.1 will be taken frm the HPU and acted upn as necessary. 7.Ntifiable Illnesses 7.1 Certain diseases must be reprted t the HPT and t Ofsted by the Schlhuse. 7.2 This statutry requirement is referred t in the Infectin List abve. 7.3 When this ccurs, the Manager r persn in charge f the setting will take any advice frm this agency and act upn it as necessary.
