According to orthodontist Dr Peter Miles, of New Wave Orthodontics on the Sunshine Coast, Invisalign has been the biggest growth area in orthodontics. We set up on a computer how we want the teeth to move and work out the best sequence of movements for the teeth. For that treatment plan, a series of movements are made. Dr Miles says that while it s usually adults who opt for invisible braces, some adolescents choose them as well though others still prefer the choice of colours that metal braces allow for. Metal braces tend to be the least expensive option, with Invisalign sitting in the middle range and lingual costing the most. Treatment time is less reliant on the type of braces and depends more on whether an individual s case is straightforward or more complex, as well as their rate of teeth movement. Check-ups are required less frequently at the beginning of treatment, but will be closer together towards the later stages. Dr Miles stresses that those considering braces should seek the advice of a professional registered with the Australian Society of Orthodontists, as an orthodontist will able to suggestion the best and most cost-effective option for you.
