Mobility Device Securement Practice (3.0 Hours) This interactive, hands-on workshop will provide participants with an opportunity for questions and time to practice proper securement of mobility devices. Additionally, maintenance and inspection of securement equipment will be covered. Prerequisites: This class requires that you have prior experience securing mobility devices or that you have completed one of the following courses: PASS, Best Ride with Securement or Vehicle Orientation with securement. Cost of Course: Network (No Cost); Non-Network $60 per seat Notes: This course is highly recommended for drivers operating lift and ramp equipped vehicles. Please come to class prepared to work outside in all types of weather. Due to the hands-on nature of this class, space is limited to 4 participants. Mental Health First Aid (8.0 Hours) Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. This course will cover the topics of depression, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders as they relate to the older adults. We will also cover how to recognize that someone might have suicidal thoughts or behaviors and where to turn for help. Notes: This course is offered in two parts. Participation in both parts is required for certification. Note that both parts are scheduled at the same time and must be taken together. Please be sure you are able to attend both parts when enrolling. PASS: Passenger Assistance (5.0-8.0 Hours) This class uses the CTAA/University of Wisconsin Milwaukee PASS training curriculum to deliver comprehensive passenger assistance and wheelchair securement training. Note: Please indicate one of the following options at registration. PASS Basic (Ambulatory Only) - Early Release PASS with Securement Cost of Course: Prior to July 1: Network (No Cost); Non-Network $60 per seat After July 1: All participants $95 per seat. Note that this course is not eligible for network discounts after June 30. Safe at Any Age- Driving (4.0-6.0 Hours) This class is a two-part program designed for safe drivers who have years of driving experience. Part I: Basic Driving): A review of the basic defensive driving skills used to avoid collisions and maintain excellent safety records. Part II: Safe Driving Practices and the Aging Process: This optional module describes the physical factors that may affect driving ability and how we all can compensate for the normal effects of aging. Note for RC Partners: A state certified defensive driving course must be completed prior to driving the vehicle. The course must be repeated every three years for drivers under 70 years of age and every two years for drivers over 70 years of age. Cost of Course: Network (No Cost); Non-Network $60 per seat Note: Please indicate one of the following options at registration. Part I: Basic Driving- Early Release Part II: Basic with Supplementary Modules Note that we must have at least 3 people for Part II in order to conduct the session. Class Information: Registration To enroll participants in a class, send an email to: training@rideconnection.org Your email should include the participant s name, agency, desired class date and contact phone number/email. Note that an emergency contact number for the participant is required. If you do not have email access, you may contact 503-528-1767 to enroll. Cancellations Classes are not held when registration numbers total fewer than 5 participants. Class cancellations due to weather are handled on a case-by-case basis depending upon local conditions and forecasts. We communicate with participants as soon as possible when making decisions about weather related cancellations. If you are unable to attend a training you are registered for, please contact training@rideconnection.org or 503.528.1767 Participation Fees If you do not drive for a Ride Connection partner agency, the cost for each class payable by cash or check at the time of the class. (Please have exact change if paying by cash). Certificates are provided after receipt of payment. Specific costs for each training are listed with each course description. Meals, Refreshments and Breaks Lunch and snacks are not provided during class and not every training site has access to nearby cafes or vending machines. Please encourage drivers to bring their own snacks, drinks and lunches. Specific information related to each training site is included in the confirmation email sent at registration. A 15-minute break is built into each 4 hours of training. 30 minutes for lunch are built into full day courses. Accommodations We are committed to working toward eliminating barriers and improving accessibility for class participants. If you require any assistance or accommodation to participate in the class, please let us know at registration. We will contact you to discuss your needs. To accommodate individuals with sensitivities, please strive to limit or eliminate your use of scented products and fragrances while participating in our classes. Certificates Class certificates are distributed via email and are sent to the address of the person registering the driver for that particular session. Drivers do not receive a copy of the certificate, but agencies may forward certificates to the drivers as needed. Certificates cannot be released until payment is received. In general, certificates are processed within 5 business days after the class is completed or payment is received. Please wait at least 5 business days before inquiring about the status of a certificate. 8
