January 2009 In this issue: SA Information including new Committee Members Regular Events Forthcoming trips and Social Events

STAFF ASSOCIATION INFORMATION SA KEY CONTACTS Chairman Vickie Payne (01603 592425) v.payne@uea.ac.uk Membership Pat Prentice (01603 592613) p.prentice@uea.ac.uk Social Events and SAM Lynn Kerin (01603 593695) l.kerin@uea.ac.uk Treasurer Bev Hughes (01603 592111) b.hughes@uea.ac.uk DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998 UEA Staff Association (UEASA) is exempt from notification as a data controller under the above Act as it complies with the rules governing exemption for 'not for profit organisations'. It is however still required to comply with the Data Protection Principles set out in the Act. UEASA holds data about all members for the purposes of establishing and maintaining membership. The data is used to process and record your membership and to enable the UEASA to carry out its activities. The data held includes address details that are used to facilitate the provision of information to you (via Newsletter or E Mail) but they are not used for third party mailings. If there is an inaccuracy in the details we hold for you or if you have any other questions regarding the data we hold please contact the Chair (Vickie Payne). JUST A REMINDER Website There is information about Executive Committee Members and Social Committee Members, Clubs and Social Events on our web site. You can find the website from the UEA Home Page - go to Staff Links in the left hand column in the services section of The Portal. Each new issue of SAM, along with details of trips and events is available on the website (as well as being circulated to all members via the internal mail) and you can also download sign-up sheets for events. Change of Details If you have moved and are in a new department please let Bev Hughes know as soon as possible for future mailings (b.hughes@uea.ac.uk). Alternatively if you know anyone who has moved and who hasn t received a copy of the SAM, please could you also let Bev know their new address. Booking Events (Non-members) Can we also remind members that when booking trips for non-members, the non-members must always be accompanied by a member of the Staff Association.

PAVILION LICENCING REGULATIONS In order to comply with regulations governing the use of premises, we have been advised by County Hall that each member can bring up to 2 guests to events that we hold at the Colney Lane Pavilion. Members will need to be aware of this rule when booking events. This restriction on the number of guests members can bring does not apply to trips, though there may be some restrictions according to demand. RETIRING? Any Staff Association member who is going to retire soon and would like to be considered for life membership should contact the Membership Secretary before their retirement date. If you are shortly to retire from UEA you will be eligible to join the UEA Retirement Association. Events held include talks, walks and a book club, as well as outings in the Summer and a Christmas gathering. Details of our current activities, a copy of the latest issue of our Newsletter and a membership application form can be found on our web site. Go to the SA web site and click on Retirement Association EMAIL CIRCULATION LIST Occasionally the Social Committee circulates information and details of forthcoming events by email. If you are not already included on our email circulation list and would like your email address to be included, please contact the Membership Secretary, Pat Prentice (email p.prentice@uea.ac.uk). Pat will then be able to arrange for your email address to be included in future mailings. This is particularly relevant if you are a retired member, or a member of staff who does not use email in your workplace but do have an alternative external email address. DISCOUNT LIST Don t forget to check out the discount list for great discounts at shops and restaurants around Norwich. Any member wanting to see a copy of the Discount List should contact Sheila Davies, Ext 2548 email s.davies@uea.ac.uk or it is available to view on the Staff Association internet pages. ARE YOU FULL OF IDEAS FOR EVENTS AND TRIPS? Then why not join the Social Committee! We meet informally once a month to discuss ideas for trips and events and are always looking for new members with fresh ideas. If you are interested in finding out more about the Social Committee please contact Lynn Kerin (l.kerin@uea.ac.uk) for further details.
