What We Will Do Demonstration Lecture and Practice Discussion (questions and answers)

What is EFT? EFT = Emotional Freedom Techniques Technique used to balance the body s energy system by tapping on acupressure points Looks and sounds weird but it works often when nothing else will.

EFT Utilizes Common Spots Massage under eyes Massaging temples Palm or fist to chest Palm to forehead Heel of hand to forehead Sign of the cross Face in hands Biting on fingers Scratching chest, head, legs, under arm etc Wringing hands Arms folded??where IS YOUR FAVORITE SPOT??

History of EFT Based on work of Roger Callahan in 1980 Developed by Gary Craig 100% overhaul concept

Discovery Statement The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption the body s energy system.

Einstein Knew It! Theory of Relativity E = mc ² Albert Einstein - 1920 All Matter made of energy Energy = + and - charges Western healing sciences ignored this concept until recently

Candace Pert, PhD. Research professor at Georgetown Medical Center in Washington Wrote Molecules of Emotion Established the biomolecular basis for our emotions- neuropeptides and their receptors in the body Helped establish the crucial link between mind and body

Dr. Bruce Lipton Cellular Biologist and Med School Professor Wrote The Biology of Belief Showed that DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts.

How small it all is! Everything vibrates at its own individual speed. It is the speed of the movement that makes us think we are looking at a solid world. Our perceptions are not the reality! 2004 Ann Adams

Energy System EKG TV s, Telephones and Radios A ZZZZZT in the system Tuners

Discovery Statement Negative Thought Response Negative thoughts create a ZZZZT (like static in your TV) in your energy system which causes the physical and/or emotional response.

Our Energy System Experiential exercise to *see* results of energy transfer via hands. Electromagnetic fields do exist. They run thru each of us Don t see or usually feel them But they are there working for or against us

We live in a Palace of Possibilities We stay in the rooms where we belong : our comfort zone Our comfort zone reflects our sense of identity and worthiness 2004 Julie Mundt

Comfort Zones Somehow, we don't "belong" in those other, more expansive rooms. They are for richer people and more privileged people and people with more talent than us. We stay within the familiar (our comfort zones) and don't venture beyond the walls (limits) of the rooms we have chosen. Why?

The Writing on Our Walls The TRUTH as we know it. We are constantly consulting the writing on our walls 2004 Ann Adams The words on our walls are metaphors for our self talk.

What s on YOUR walls? Math is hard. It s rude to speak your mind. You can do anything you put your mind to! Boys are better than girls. Eat everything on your plate: there are starving children in India! Everyone in our family is overweight. 2004 Julie Mundt

The Writing on Our Walls Our guide to the way things are Version of reality given to us by the perceived voice of authority Meaning we give to early experiences 2004 Julie Mundt

NOT written in stone Just like on old classroom chalkboards the words can be e r a s e d. 2004 Ann Adams My constant thoughts become my reality.

Tail-Enders Affirmations are and Powerful Positive Subtle and negative. but just as powerful are the yes, buts that stop the affirmations 2004 Ann Adams

Tail-Enders Often Relate to Core Issues Listen closely for those little words of objection Follow that Lead core issue 2004 Ann Adams

EFT and Law of Attraction Were you ever told any of the following? What makes you think you can do that? Who do you think you are? What makes you so special? You don t deserve to. You are too stupid to You aren t good enough to. You re a joke if you think you can You ve failed at everything you ve. Don t expect to get special treatment You aren t anything special You aren t pretty enough to You weren t born with the right genes to

Identify Your Issue Physical Issue Bothersome memory Emotions Addictive Cravings (food, alcohol, tobacco, sweets etc) Phobia Types of issues Responding to EFT Try it on Everything Gary Craig

Basic Recipe The Setup The Sequence The Reminder Phrase Adjustments for Subsequent Rounds

The Reminder Phrase Way to aim the basic recipe at the problem Tuning in to the problem. Easier while tapping to tune in by saying a reminder phrase

Intensity Meter SUDs level (Subjective Unit of Distress) Rate intensity of problem on 0-10 scale before doing EFT and again after If not down to a 0 do a subsequent round

The Setup (Ingredient #1) Like setting up the bowling pins in bowling Makes sure your energy system is properly oriented before trying to remove its disruptions. Necessary in about 40% of cases, but we do it for all. Used to correct for polarity reversals (battery analogy)

The Setup continued Polarity reversal = Psychological Reversal Reason some chronic diseases don t respond to conventional therapy and why people have a hard time losing weight or giving up addictive substances Cause of Self Sabotage When present will stop any attempt at healing

The Setup Continued PR must be corrected if the rest of The Basic recipe is going to work 2 parts 1. Repeat an affirmation 3 times while you 2. Rub the Sore Spot or tap the Karate chop point (see p 22 in manual)

The Affirmation Even though I have this I deeply and completely accept myself. Fill in blank with brief description of problem: Fear of public speaking Headache Anger towards my father War memory Stiff neck Fear of snakes (or flying, water, heights etc) Craving for a cigarette, (or chocolate, or alcohol)

The Setup continued See page 22 for other versions of setup phrase Note: Doesn t matter if you believe the affirmation or not Better to say with feeling and emphasis, but saying it routinely will usually do Best to say out loud, but can do silently Sore Spot or Karate Chop Point See page 22

The Sequence (Ingredient #2) Involves tapping the endpoints of major energy meridians Tips Can be done with either hand Tap with index and middle finger Tap solidly but not so hard as to hurt self Tap about 7-9 times on each point Can tap on either side of body

9 Gamut Procedure The 9 Gamut The EFT 9 Gamut Procedure is a combination of nine actions which are actually brain stimulating exercises. This is achieved via eye movements, humming and counting. Our optic nerves are a direct connection to the brain. When the eyes are moved, certain parts of the brain are stimulated. Also, the right side of our brain, the creative side, is engaged when we hum a song, and the left side of our brain, the linear reasoning and language side, is engaged when we count. The 9 Gamut procedure is a ten second process when nine of these "brain stimulating" actions are performed whilst continually tapping the Gamut point on the back of the hand.

9 Gamut Procedure To perform the 9 Gamut procedure, first locate the gamut point on the back of your hand. It is 1cm (1/2 inch) behind the midpoint between the knuckle of the ring and little finger. Whilst continuously tapping this point, perform the following 9 different actions : 1. Close your eyes for a second or two. 2. Open your eyes. 3. Eyes down hard right, while holding your head steady. 4. Eyes down hard left, while holding your head steady. 5. Roll your eyes in a clockwise circle. 6. Roll your eyes in an anti-clockwise circle. 7. Hum 2 seconds of a song, ie. happy birthday. 8. Count rapidly from one to five. 9. Hum 2 seconds of the song again. Please perform these actions in the order given. Most people select happy birthday as their tune, however any tune which you associate with happy occasions will do.

Subsequent Round Adjustments Even though I still have some of this, I deeply and completely accept myself. Reminder Phrase = remaining

Things to Remember Persistence pays Be specific when possible Generalization effect Aspects Try it on everything Test Your Work

Persistence Pays Say affirmation more emphatically Ask what emotion is associated Forgiveness/Deserving issues Examples: Snowboard, mint, allergies

Be Specific For Results that are TERRIFIC It s best to be SPECIFIC Examples Sharp pain in my right knee Panicky feeling Use words that hit the spot

Generalization Effect Trees in forest Vietnam vets Abuse issues

Aspects Two types of shifting aspects Related scene or memory New emotion on same event Examples Fear of heights Weight issues Abuse Pain

Try it on EVERYTHING Emotional issues Performance Issues Pain Past memories Weight/addictions Note: This does not mean to try it on severe emotional problems like psychotic behavior or on the seriously ill unless you have training in these disorders.

Test Your Work Ask pointed questions Reenact a bothersome memory Imagine the event Try to get the intensity up again This helps bring up different aspects.

Your Point Sometimes you will find a certain point that seems to work for you the majority of the time. You can use that point as a shortcut, and if it doesn t work, add the others.

When it Doesn t Seem to Work If it doesn t work the first time, don t assume EFT doesn t work. Usually it is because: The setup was too global There are different aspects There is a core issue you haven t addressed

Core Issues Presenting problems are often just a symptom of a CORE ISSUE. Finding the CORE ISSUE is an art.

Tips for use with Kids Establish rapport Even though Sammy hit me, I m still an awesome kid Tap at end of day for good and bad things that happened Magic buttons
