Overall Warnings Damage caused by misuse may void the manufacturer s warranty. Failure to comply with the following guidelines may result in injury or damage to the equipment. Additional warnings are found throughout the document. General This simulator is constructed of material that approximates skin texture. Therefore, in handeling the model, use the same gentle techniques as you would in working with a patient. Do not wrap this or any other Gaumard product in newsprint. Indelible marks made with ballpoint pens, ink or marker cannot be removed. Do not use alcohol, acetone, Betadine or any other antiseptic which contains iodine in this or any Gaumard simulator. These products could damage or stain the skin of the simulator. Storage Improper storage may damage the simulator. Keep it stored in the box and/or bag provided. Store the simulator in a cool, dry place. Extended storage above 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 Celsius) will cause the simulator to soften and slowly warp. Do not stack or store heavy materials on top of the box and/or bag. It is acceptable to operate the simulator at an ambient temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius). Cleaning The simulator is splash-proof but not waterproof. Do not submerge or allow water to enter the interior of the simulator. Stoma Guidelines, Warnings, and Maintenance User Guidelines Always handle the stomas with clean hands. Warnings Do not palpate using fingernails Do not clean with alcohol or aggressive solvents Do not pack any sharp objects with the stomas Do not press the stomas against soiled surfaces, ink, or newsprint. The stoma material is absorbent. Maintenance Prevent items from resting or pressing against the stomas as indentations will form on the pressure points. The stomas may return to the normal shape after the pressure is relieved. Place talcum powder on the stoma surface to reduce tackiness. This can be reapplied as needed. Clean the stomas using a mild solution of soap and water. Apply talcum powder to return the surface to a skin-like feel and appearance. Clean the skin of the simulator after every training session. The skin should be cleaned with a cloth, dampened with diluted liquid dish washing soap. Do not clean with harsh abrasives. Do not use povidone iodine on the simulator. Dry thoroughly. 6 User Guide Care and Cautions

Removing and Replacing the Skin The skin and foam top can be removed in order to clean the inside of the torso. To remove the skin: 1. Carefully detach it from the back end of the simulator (end with the view port) by lifting it up. 2. Then remove the skin from each leg before completely removing the skin. To replace the skin, simply reverse the procedure (i.e., begin by carefully fitting the skin over each leg and then slide it up and over the back end of the torso). 10 User Guide Equipment Set Up

Simulator Features 3. Attach auxiliary tank adaptor tubing to port Bladder Catheterization One of the most important elements of nursing care is bladder catheterization, i.e. the removal of urine from the bladder by the introduction of a catheter. The S230.10 was designed with realistic features that permit bladder catheterization training. The simulator consists of an adult lower torso with leg stumps, allowing catheterization in the seated or recumbent position. Internal mechanisms of the simulator permit the instructor to: Teach catheterization techniques. Familiarize trainees with female and male external anatomy. Feel resistance during insertion of catheter. Feel simulated bladder contraction. The figure below shows a simulated female bladder catheterization with the use of an 18 Fr urinary catheter. 4. Fill simulated bladder with the aid of auxiliary tank. 5. Collect items required for procedure. 6. Move manikin to desired position. 7. Apply lubricant to catheter. 8. Separate labia if using female part or hold male genitalia. 9. Continue procedure following aseptic technique. Port 1 Port 2 Port 3 Port 4 Simulating Bladder Contraction Bladder catheterization exercises may also be carried out with the aid of an auxiliary tank placed upon a stand near the simulator, to simulate bladder contraction. Fill the tank with water and attach to port 4 (suprapubic stoma) of the simulator. The elevation of the tank provides gravity feed of the fluid contracting the bladder when catheter is inserted. Always lubricate the catheter using silicone lubricant. Failure to lubricate the catheter will damage the internal valves and cause leakage. Increasing Urinary Outflow A tank positioned on the posterior side of the simulator can increase urinary outflow by applying a uniform pressure to the anterior side. The tank is filled with air by compressing a small pump connected to the tank. Increasing the tank volume would displace and apply pressure Directions for Use 1. Remove silicone stoma from port 4, if attached. 2. Fill auxiliary tank with water. 12 User Guide Working with the Simulator

to the anterior abdominal cavity. Inflate tank by pressing the pump attached until the desired pressure is achieved. Directions for Use 1. Lubricate the tip of the catheter before insertion. 2. Use the auxiliary tank to fill the bladder tank to a maximum capacity of 2 liters, to recreate bladder contractions during catheterization. 3. To perform a male catheterization, remove the urethra plug and insert the male genitalia to the urethra connector and attach with Velcro. 4. To perform a female catheterization, remove the male genitalia by disconnecting it from the urethra connector and pulling out from the Velcro attachment. Attach the urethra plug inside the urethra conduit. Female and Male Catheterization The labia are separated to examine the urethral opening. Prior to the insertion of the male genitalia, remove the seal from the female genitalia. Note that the female genitalia are bonded to the simulator and the male genitalia is attached using Velcro strips. When practicing catheterization with the male genitalia in place, the penis must be manipulated to permit the passage of the 18 Fr urinary catheter. The urethra is connected to an internal urinary bladder. Leakage is minimized through removable internal valves located between the urethra opening and the bladder. Training on asepsis and disinfection is also possible. Ostomy Catheterization Ostomy catheterization training can also be done with the S230.10 simulator. Under certain medical conditions the insertion of a catheter would be required to drain fluids or urine. Directions for Use 1. Remove silicone stoma from selected port if attached. 2. Fill auxiliary tank with water. 3. Attach auxiliary tank adaptor tubing to ostomy port. 4. Fill internal reservoir with the aid of auxiliary tank. 5. Perform ostomy catheterization with a 9 Fr catheter or smaller. WARNING The protrusion of the stoma is made out of silicone. Always apply silicone oil to the stoma protrusion and to the end of the catheter before beginning with the procedure. Ostomy Care The creation of an ostomy (a temporary or permanent artificial opening) is an important part of abdominal surgery. This procedure is conducted under strict aseptic conditions to avoid potential risks like infection. Working with the Simulator User Guide 13

The S230.10 features simulated stomas, with realistic appearance and internal reservoirs attached. Ostomy bags may be attached to the openings to practice ostomy care exercises. Exercises in skin preparation and stoma hygiene as well as treatment of common skin conditions around the stoma may be practiced. The S230.10 contains ostomy ports for procedures relating to the bladder, the ileum, and the bowel. Internal tanks connect to the appropriate ports. Enema Procedures Practice enema care using the kit provided. Raise the fluid bag above the anus to allow the fluid to flow without obstructions. It is recommended to use distilled water for the enema fluid. Ostomy Port 1 Ostomy Port 2 Ostomy Port 3 Ostomy Port 4 The suprapubic stoma is connected to the bladder tank which connects to the urethra. The rectal stoma is connected to the colostomy tank which connects to the rectum. Ileostomy care can be practiced using the two communicating ostomy ports located on the right side of the torso that connect to an isolated internal tank. Cervical Examination Pelvic and vaginal speculum examination can be performed with the simulator. Speculum can be placed, cervix viewed, and basic procedures practiced. Vaginal wall can be palpated. Directions for use If catheterization of stoma is required, first fill respective reservoir tank with auxiliary tank then, use a 9 Fr catheter to perform catheterization. Apply silicone oil to the catheter tip and ostomy port before catheterization. Rectal Examination Rectal wall can be palpated using the simulator. 14 User Guide Working with the Simulator
