Keeping Your Heart in Good Shape for a Lifetime Adult Congenital Heart Program
Adult Congenital Heart Program Today, children with congenital heart disease are not only surviving but thriving as adults. These adults have unique problems that require care from cardiologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals with special expertise in congenital heart disease. The Vanderbilt Adult Congenital Heart Program is dedicated to providing the expert care necessary to allow patients to experience a high quality of life. Our program has a rich history of caring for congenital heart disease. We offer the region s most comprehensive services for diagnosing and treating those who have grown into adulthood with congenital heart disease. The adult congenital program was developed by both the adult and pediatric cardiac physicians. This collaboration provides the highest level of care for adult patients. The Adult Congenital Heart Program is part of Vanderbilt Heart. Our location on the main campus of Vanderbilt Medical Center allows us to evaluate and treat our patients in one facility. Vanderbilt Heart is dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art care for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
ONE HEART AT A TIME The program is designed to work with each patient to determine how best to care for their type of congenital heart disease. In addition to cardiac care, we offer services to meet the unique needs of our adults. Adults in the program have access to the following medical and surgical services: Cardiothoracic surgeons experienced in congenital disease, ventricular assist and transplant Therapeutic interventional cardiac catheterization to diagnose and treat some defects with minimally invasive techniques Comprehensive electrophysiology procedures and device management to include pacing, ICD, CRT and 3D mapping/ablation Noninvasive diagnostic imaging - echocardiography, CT and MRI Reproductive services and delivery management Exercise and rehabilitation services Nutritional counseling For patients with high lung pressures, our collaboration with the Pulmonary Hypertension Service at Vanderbilt allows access to new therapies.

We are involved in a nationwide congenital heart disease research effort so physicians can share information about patient outcomes. OUR STAFF Benjamin F.
