What We Do St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group is the only low-cost centre for expert eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. The original St John Eye Hospital was established in Jerusalem in 1882. Since then, we have opened satellite centres taking expert eye care to Gaza, Hebron and Anabta. We also operate two Mobile Outreach Clinics taking vital services to isolated communities where people are unable to travel easily. Our sight-saving work is carried out to the highest international standards, and is often delivered against very challenging and difficult odds. We treat patients regardless of ethnicity, religion or ability to pay. Services provided by our Hospitals, Clinics and Mobile Outreach Units revive education and employment prospects, and contribute to economic growth. By protecting sight, we are also safeguarding the financial and social independence of individuals and the livelihood of their families. Our work changes lives. What your fundraising can do: 60 could pay for Outreach education sessions in the rural West Bank 100 could enable us to increase the number of sight saving operations we perform 300 could cover the cost of a major operation 1000 could make a crucial impact on the development of our teaching and training programme 2
Our Areas of Work You can choose how we use your hard-earned funds. If you decide to make a general donation, we can spend the money where it s needed the most. Alternatively, you can choose to donate to a specific area.: Mobile Outreach Clinic Two Outreach teams deliver essential eye treatment to some of the most remote and impoverished communities in the West Bank. Without this service, many patients would struggle to access treatment Teaching and Training By training local staff we are investing in the shattered Palestinian infrastructure. We are the only establishment to offer comprehensive training for Palestinian Ophthalmologists and our Specialist Ophthalmic Nursing Course is the only one of its kind in the Middle East The Main Hospital The Jerusalem Eye Hospital is our flagship hospital. It was the first Palestinian hospital to achieve the prestigious Joint Commission International accreditation, which is recognised internationally by its peers for demanding the highest possible standards Gaza Clinic The Gaza Strip is one of the most heavily populated areas in the world. The St John Eye Clinic was established to meet the growing need for eye care in a population that has been facing increasing restrictions on their access to the main hospital in Jerusalem Anabta Clinic The Anabta Clinic was founded to serve communities who cannot access the Jerusalem Hospital without permits, if at all. Anabta s residents, many of whom are refugees from Gaza, number amongst the poorest in the occupied Palestinian territories St John Eye Hospital: Hebron The Hospital cares for the communities around Hebron and Bethlehem, many of whom are refugees. Hebron is particularly affected by movement restrictions in the West Bank. Whether you re running for retinas or having a garden party for glaucoma, we re here to help you help us!
