CLINICAL UPDATE IN THE Overview & Objectives New research and technical advances have significantly changed how we detect and care for patients with breast cancer. This course will update participants on the recommended workup for benign breast disease and the optimal multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer. After attending this meeting participants will understand: How to manage patients with symptoms related to benign breast disease and identify clinical situations appropriate for referral. The newest techniques for diagnosing breast cancer and the interpretation of contemporary pathology reports. The significant patient benefits of minimally invasive surgical techniques, and new radiation therapy techniques that have resulted in a marked reduction in overall treatment time. Effective chemotherapy schedules and hormone therapy programs. The emotional, ethical and social issues pertaining to cancer diagnosis and treatment. The challenges of coping with life after breast cancer. Guidelines for recommended therapies for managing menopausal symptoms after breast cancer. Medicolegal issues involved in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. All educational aspects of the meeting will be highlighted through patient case presentations as well as interactive discussions with faculty and participants through the use of Audio Response Technology. Participants will have ample opportunity to ask questions and interact with faculty. TARGET AUDIENCE This course is intended for primary care, family medicine and internal medicine physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists, and physicians-in-training and other health-care providers whose practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
