The Legacy Awards is 4-H s national event to celebrate the youth, adults and alumni who are making positive changes in communities every day. 4-H Youth in Action Awards are the highest honors National 4-H Council grants to four outstanding 4-H ers who embody 4-H youth empowerment and leadership one in each of the four 4-H Pillar Areas: Agriculture, Citizenship, Healthy Living and STEM. Past National Youth in Action Award Winners Ruwanthi Ru Ekanayake 2016 Ruwanthi Ru Ekanayake launched the first-ever 4 H Healthy Living blog, allowing 4 H ers to share their stories, build bridges and create national discussions about health. She also organized a successful Healthy Living Summit across nine counties in California through the University of California Cooperative Extension, which led to more youth starting local healthy living programs, including farm-to-table gardening and cybersafety programs. Nosa Akol 2015 Nosa Akol joined CITIZEN U 4-H as a high school freshman, where she overcame bullying, developed self-confidence and built leadership and public speaking skills. As a result, she expanded on her interests in biological sciences to become a delegate for World Food Prize Global Youth Institute, a Wallace-Carver Fellow at Cornell University and a panelist at the Norman Borlaug Symposium, among other honors. Andres Parra 2014 Growing up as part of a Mexican immigrant family, Andres Parra experienced many obstacles as he struggled to find motivation to excel in school. He was introduced to 4-H through the Eat4-Health program and discovered a passion for nutrition and exercise that led him to better personal health, as well as service as a 4-H Teen Ambassador and Instructional Aide at University of Arizona s Tucson Farm Village to teach others. Elisabeth D. Willis 2013 Elisabeth D. Willis joined 4-H at five years old and has served 4-H in many capacities, including as Oklahoma State 4-H Ambassador. Her service learning project raised $10,000 for the Therapeutic Equestrian Association of McAlester (TEAM) to establish a local TEAM 4-H club to raise funds for the organization and build awareness of the benefits of equine therapy for adults and kids with disabilities.
