Celebrating True Leaders The 8th annual National 4-H Council Legacy Awards on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 celebrates the tremendous achievements of the 4-H community. Sponsorship of the Legacy Awards is an excellent opportunity for your organization to support 4-H s life changing work as we grow from empowering six million youth to 10 million youth. True leaders are young people who have confidence, independence, resilience and compassion. In 4-H, we believe true leaders aren t born they are grown. As the premier fundraising event for National 4-H Council, support of 4-H Legacy Awards grows True Leaders. We are pleased to offer opportunities to support 4-H and our mission at all levels. Your support of 4-H through the Legacy Awards will generate impact by: Aligning with leaders from Fortune 500 companies, elected officials, celebrities, 4-H Alumni luminaries, business leaders and other distinguished guests. Heightening brand visibility in urban, rural and global markets through support of the nation s largest youth development and empowerment organization. Growing more young people through the life-changing 4-H experience. Honoring the accomplishments of 4-H youth and the adults who drive 4-H forward every day. Joining us to rally our 25 million alumni to Raise Your Hand.

The Legacy Awards is 4-H s national event to celebrate the youth, adults and alumni who are making positive changes in communities every day. On this important evening, we will bestow several awards as we tell the story of 4-H and its impacts today: Left to right: Nosa Akol, Ruwanthi Ekanayake, and Jennifer Nettles 4-H Youth In Action Awards The 4-H Youth in Action Awards (Agriculture, Citizenship, Healthy Living and STEM) recognize outstanding 4-H ers who have gained critical life skills through their 4-H experience and have utilized those skills for personal impact and community impact. Left to right: Javier Palomarez, Craig Melvin, and Andres Parra Distinguished 4-H Alumni Medallion The Distinguished 4-H Alumni Medallion is presented to alumni who have embodied the 4-H pledge through their significant accomplishments in professional life or in service to the nation and is the highest honor National 4-H Council bestows upon its alumni. Left to right: Tom Lehr and Landel Hobbs 4-H Brand Champion Award The 4-H Brand Champion Award recognizes an individual who has worked to elevate the 4-H brand.

4-H Youth in Action Awards are the highest honors National 4-H Council grants to four outstanding 4-H ers who embody 4-H youth empowerment and leadership one in each of the four 4-H Pillar Areas: Agriculture, Citizenship, Healthy Living and STEM. Past National Youth in Action Award Winners Ruwanthi Ru Ekanayake 2016 Ruwanthi Ru Ekanayake launched the first-ever 4 H Healthy Living blog, allowing 4 H ers to share their stories, build bridges and create national discussions about health. She also organized a successful Healthy Living Summit across nine counties in California through the University of California Cooperative Extension, which led to more youth starting local healthy living programs, including farm-to-table gardening and cybersafety programs. Nosa Akol 2015 Nosa Akol joined CITIZEN U 4-H as a high school freshman, where she overcame bullying, developed self-confidence and built leadership and public speaking skills. As a result, she expanded on her interests in biological sciences to become a delegate for World Food Prize Global Youth Institute, a Wallace-Carver Fellow at Cornell University and a panelist at the Norman Borlaug Symposium, among other honors. Andres Parra 2014 Growing up as part of a Mexican immigrant family, Andres Parra experienced many obstacles as he struggled to find motivation to excel in school. He was introduced to 4-H through the Eat4-Health program and discovered a passion for nutrition and exercise that led him to better personal health, as well as service as a 4-H Teen Ambassador and Instructional Aide at University of Arizona s Tucson Farm Village to teach others. Elisabeth D. Willis 2013 Elisabeth D. Willis joined 4-H at five years old and has served 4-H in many capacities, including as Oklahoma State 4-H Ambassador. Her service learning project raised $10,000 for the Therapeutic Equestrian Association of McAlester (TEAM) to establish a local TEAM 4-H club to raise funds for the organization and build awareness of the benefits of equine therapy for adults and kids with disabilities.
