Injury, Incident & Illness Prcedure Injury / Incident Includes any child, adult, r emplyee injured n site. A first aid kit will be available at all times. It will be maintained in accrdance with criterin PF28 (appendix 1) and checked termly t replace used items r items past their use-by-date. Teachers will have current first aid training. Teachers will administer first aid treatment and/r assess the cnditin f any child r adult wh requires attentin, either as a result f an accident r illness, and in cnsultatin with ther teachers decide the mst sensible curse f actin depending n the severity f the accident/illness. Teachers shuld nt hesitate t phne Emergency Services n 111. Fllwing a critical event, health and safety plicy and prcedures will be reviewed as necessary. Child Injury Teachers will assess and apply first aid if required. Fr serius accidents, which teachers cannt manage at kindergarten, medical help will be sught by calling 111. Teachers will attempt t cntact parents immediately fllwing a serius child injury. Fr any bld r bdy fluid injuries fllw the safe guidelines in the hygiene and infectin cntrl prcedure. All incidents and injuries must be recrded n the DK Sharepint Injury and incident frm by the attending teacher. Parents must be ntified when an injury ccurs and sign the injury and incident frm. If an injury r incident requires an external investigatin this will be carried ut by the general manager. All injury and incident frms must be filed. Fr children file with the child s enrlment card. (Refer t Ntifiable event definitins). The Ministry f Educatin must als be ntified by the General Manager. If an identified hazard has caused an injury, check if the cntrls are adequate. Emplyee Injury The prcess fr Child Injury will be fllwed. If a teacher r ther emplyee ges hme as a result f an injury cntact Dunedin Kindergartens t infrm them. The DK Sharepint Injury and incident frm will be used t dcument the injury. If an injury r incident requires an external investigatin this will be carried ut by the general manager. Any injury t an emplyee shuld be managed by cntacting the general manager and using the Injury management flw chart (appendix 2). Als refer t the Return t Wrk prcedure. When a Ntifiable event (Injury/Illness/Incident) ccurs t an emplyee, cntractr r any member f the public, the general manager must ntify Wrksafe NZ 0800 030 040, as sn as pssible and a written reprt is sent within seven days. If an identified hazard has caused an injury, check if the cntrls are adequate. Fr a new hazard add t the hazard register and fllw prcedure fr hazard management. Illness Sudden Illness When a child attending kindergarten develps any illness, all practicable steps must be taken t islate the child frm the thers attending kindergarten and return the child t the care f a parent, guardian, r whānau member withut delay. Fr serius illnesses which teachers cannt manage at kindergarten, medical help will be sught by calling 111. There must be an area where unwell children can lie dwn away frm ther children Unwell children will be cared fr and supervised at all times. The DK Sharepint Injury and incident frm will be used t dcument illness. Parents must be ntified and sign the injury and incident frm. In the event f pisning r suspected pisning, phne the Pisns centre 0800 764766 fr advice. Infectius Illness Any child wh is suffering frm an ailment r illness may be excluded frm attending at the discretin f the Head Teacher if they believe they may cnstitute a risk t the health f thers. (Secnd Schedule f the Health (Infectius and Ntifiable Diseases) Regulatins 1966) The Infectius Disease fr Criteria HS26 (appendix 1 Licensing Criteria fr Early Childhd Educatin and Care Centres 2008) will be referred t as a basis fr infrmed decisin. Cntact yur public health nurse if yu are cncerned abut any infectius disease (including vmiting and diarrhea), particularly if a large number f peple appear t have the same symptms, r if yu ntice anything ut f the rdinary. A guide fr ut f the rdinary is arund 20% f children absent with similar symptms/cnditins. The kindergarten cmmunity shuld be infrmed f the utbreak f infectius diseases that have been diagnsed in children enrlled at kindergarten. The recmmendatin f absence frm kindergarten fllwing a vmiting and diarrhea (Gastrenteritis) episde is 48 hurs. Fllw the Hygiene and Infectin cntrl prcedure fr vmiting r diarrhea incidents and fr any bld r bdy fluid incidents.

It is recmmended yu step up yur daily cleaning by cleaning mre ften and mre thrughly if yu have an utbreak f illness. Escape Cntact DK General Manager r Senir Teacher immediately fllwing an escape incident. All incidents f escapes must be recrded n the DK Sharepint Injury and incident frm by the attending teacher. These must then be signed by the parent. Fr escapes, please als dcument this n the DK Sharepint Investigatin and further treatment frm after the event. If an incident requires an external investigatin this will be carried ut by the General Manager. The Ministry f Educatin must als be ntified f all escapes by the General Manager. Frm up t 5 days befre appearance f rash until lesins have crusted (usually abut 5 days). Frm abut 2 weeks befre signs appear until 1 week after jaundice starts. The bld and bdy fluids may be infectius several weeks befre signs appear and until weeks r mnths later. A few are infectius fr years. Frm the first day f illness until 4 days after the rash begins. Until 24 hurs after starting treatment with antibitics. Fr ne week befre swelling appears until 9 days after. While lesins are present, and while fungus persists n cntaminated material. Until well, and pssibly weeks r mnths after. Fr 24-48 hurs after treatment with antibitics is started. Fr 3 weeks frm the first signs if nt treated with antibitics.
