Martha s story Try Martha s Lemon Cake using the recipe card enclosed. Martha had a devastating stroke when she was just 25 years old. It left her with speech problems and weakness down the right side of her body. Martha said: I thought I might be paralysed for the rest of my life, but I was determined to get my independence back again. I d enjoyed baking before my stroke, and thought making cakes for friends and family could help with my recovery. Cracking the eggs and getting the mixture into cake tins was difficult, but I was so proud when my cakes came out of the oven. I realised what I was still able to achieve. Things went from strength to strength. Two years later I opened my own baking business. I m thrilled to be able to Give a Hand and Bake for the Stroke Association. Baking is such an important part of my life now, and I wouldn t be where I am without the support of this fantastic charity and supporters like you.
