Themes: Empathy & Compassion Storytelling & Raising Awareness Activity 1 Introduction to charities Time: 5 minutes [Read out the questions and answers to your class] Why is it good to make noise? (Ask your pupils for suggestions first) Getting noisy helps to grab attention! Getting noisy can be fun! Getting noisy can make you feel good, especially when youêre dancing to your favourite song! Getting noisy can help you to express different emotions. (Ask your pupils to make happy/sad/excited noises). What is GlobalÊs Make Some Noise? GlobalÊs Make Some Noise is a charity which helps lots of smaller charities across the UK. GlobalÊs Make Some Noise helps small charities by working with some of the UKÊs best-loved radio stations and their listeners to help raise money and shout about the work the charities do.

How does a small charity work? GlobalÊs Make Some Noise works with small charities that support disadvantaged children. [Define disadvantaged as something that causes difficulty/ something that makes someone less likely to succeed than others]. Small charities work with volunteers who give up their time to help others, and help to raise money to buy useful things and pay for fun days out for children and their families who have been through a tough time. Charities need lots of people to know about them to make sure they can raise enough money to help these children. For small charities, it can be really difficult to get their message heard by enough people, so GlobalÊs Make Some Noise helps charities by sharing their stories on the radio. How does the radio help? Radios are everywhere - in cars, in homes, and sometimes in schools. This means that radio stations can reach many people. We can hear music through the radio because there is someone sat at a desk choosing the music for you. We can also hear our favourite radio presenters chatting through their big studio microphones! The radio presenters can MAKE SOME NOISE and share stories with the listeners. By being on the radio, GlobalÊs Make Some Noise can tell the audience all about the small charities, and the children they support - it might even make listeners want to donate money to help. (Ask your pupils) Are we ready to MAKE SOME NOISE? LetÊs see how we can help these small charities too!

Activity 2 - Meet our small charities Resources: YouTube video Time: 10 minutes Here is a story from one of the charities that Make Some Noise supports. [Play this video] Global's Make Some Noise: Who We Are Discussion points: How did you feel about Whoopsadaisy in that story? Why did Whoopsadaisy need help from GlobalÊs Make Some Noise? How has GlobalÊs Make Some Noise helped Whoopsadaisy? What are the ways that people might hear about this charity? Can you name some of the radio stations in the video? Did you spot any celebrities in the video? Who were they? Make Some Noise helps small charities by telling more people about them. How do you usually hear about people who need your help? TV? Radio? Newspapers? Do your friends and family tell you? Do you hear about things at school? What makes you remember stories?

Activity 3 Meet our celebrity friends Resources: YouTube video Time: 5 minutes GlobalÊs Make Some Noise has lots of celebrity friends who help them SHOUT about small charities. Who can you spot dancing in this video? Shout out when you see your favourite celebrities! [Play this video] Global's Make Some Noise has lift off! Activity 4 LetÊs make Noisy t-shirts for Make Some Noise Day! Resources: Noisy stencils print out Time: 10 minutes Use the Noisy t-shirts instruction pack to stencil noisy words onto your t- shirts, to make your own ÂDress LoudÊ outfit for Make Some Noise Day.

PRIMARY Theme: Raising Awareness There are lots of ways to spread the word about people who need our help. This is important because the more people who hear about the charities, the more support they are likely to get. Individual Activity 5 Get Colourful Resources: Noisy Colouring Sheets and Fundraising Pack (find them at http://bit.ly/2urv9is) Time: 5 minutes Colour in these posters of our mascot Noisy. Can you guess what heês doing to help raise money for Make Some Noise Day? Answers: Dressing loud for Make Some Noise Day, putting on a show and baking cakes for a Bake Some Noise cake sale! [Ask your pupils to discuss how they would like to fundraise try using the downloadable Fundraising Pack challenges as inspiration] What should our school do to help raise money for Make Some Noise Day in October?

Theme: The power of radio & storytelling Listening to stories about our small charities on the radio can be really powerful because the audience has to listen carefully and pay attention. Activity 6 Story Time & Noisy Wordsearch Resources: Magic show & baking cakes stories, Noisy wordsearch, pencils Time: 5 minutes Ask your pupils to listen carefully to the following story and try filling out the Noisy wordsearch at the same time. [Read out this story slowly] NoisyÊs magic show Our mascot, Noisy, has a new hobby! He loves watching magicians on TV, so heês going to perform his own magic show. Noisy practices his trick for one whole week. Noisy invites 3 friends to watch his magic show. Noisy performs his magic trick and shouts out ABRACADABRA!. Noisy pulls a purple rabbit out of his hat like magic! [Ask your pupils to write down the answers to these questions on the back of their wordsearch paper] 1. What colour was NoisyÊs rabbit? 2. How many people watched NoisyÊs show? 3. What did Noisy say when he performed his trick? [Give your pupils these answers) 1 Purple 2 Three people 3 Abracadabra] [Ask your pupils to give their answers to these questions out loud] How many facts did you remember? How easy was it to concentrate on two things at once?

[Read out this second story slowly ask your class to close their eyes and concentrate!] Now close your eyes and listen to this story: Noisy bakes a cake Our mascot, Noisy, is baking a cake! He heads to the kitchen to start baking. Noisy puts on a big white chefês hat. Noisy puts chocolate, sugar, and oranges in to the cake mix. He adds a special food colouring that turns the cake pink! He adds candles to the cake. Voila! [Ask your pupils to write down the answers to these questions on the back of their wordsearch paper] 1. What colour was NoisyÊs cake? 2. What did Noisy put on his head in the kitchen? 3. What ingredients were in the cake? [Ask your pupils] How many facts did you remember? Was it easier to concentrate when you were only listening to the story? [Round up the activity] See how itês easier to remember things when you listen to a story carefully? Sharing stories and making some noise on the radio grabs the audienceês attention and helps people to remember stories about our small charities. Hearing these stories might make listeners want to help our small charities and raise money.

Activity 7 Radio Show Resources: Charity case studies (Find them on www.makesomenoise.com/2017-charities) Time: 20 minutes LetÊs pretend that weêre on the radio! Get into small groups and put on a radio show that will tell the story of a small charity. Some of you will play the radio presenters asking questions, and some of you will play the small charity telling your story. Research task: Ask your pupils to talk about what theyêre passionate about, and set a search engine exercise to find out about small charities in their local area. These charities could even be a GlobalÊs Make Some Noise charity one day! Ready to go: If youêre short on time, you can use one of this yearês small charities as your example. HereÊs some key facts from one of our small charities Deafinitely Theatre Deafinitely Theatre is a small charity based in London. 1 in 7 people in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing, but there isnêt much chance for deaf young people to put on shows and work in the theatre. The theatre company trains deaf young people and helps them to become actors and writers. Deafinitely Theatre has worked with over 100 deaf young people. GlobalÊs Make Some Noise will help Deafinitely Theatre pay for youth theatre programmes snd summer schools to help other deaf young people.

To get you started hereês some typical interview questions. Radio presenters: Think of questions to ask the charity... - What is your charity called? - WhatÊs an interesting fact about your charity? - Who does the charity help? - How can people get involved and help the charity? Charity volunteers: Think of what youêd like to tell the radio listeners about your charity itês your time to share your story! To get you started hereês some things to talk about. - The people that the charity helps - Why the charity was started - Fun ways that listeners can raise money to help (from baking to dressing loud!)

PRIMARY WhatÊs next? Why not make the most of all your pupilsê amazing ideas and kickstart your schoolês own fundraising event to help support GlobalÊs Make Some Noise? ThatÊs not all! You can find everything you need to make some noise at your school, from assembly plans to bake sale labels, over on www.makesomenoise.com/schools. We canêt wait to see how your school turns up the volume! GlobalÊs Make Some Noise is an appeal operated by Global Charities, a registered charity in England & Wales (1091657) & Scotland (SC041475)
