EPA Registration No. 39967-34 Uses To inhibit the growth of microorganisms in aqueous systems including aqueous emulsions and oils applied to synthetic fibers as processing aids. Chemical and physical data* Active ingredient: Product description: approx. 25 % dibromodicyanobutane white to off-white dispersion Specification The specification parameters can be found in the currently valid product specification. Characteristic data* Specific gravity (68 F / 20 C): approx. 1.08 ph: 4-7 Flash point: > 200 F / 93 C Solubility in water: Viscosity (77 F / 25 C): Brookfield RVF, #4 @ 30 rpm dispersible 1300-3100 cps (1.3-3.1 Pas) *These items are provided as general information only. They are approximate values and are not considered to be part of the product specifications. Page 2 of 9: This document contains important information and must be read in its entirety. 2/9

Storage Stored properly in sealed containers, the product has a shelf life of 12 months. Avoid storage below 41 F (5 C) and 102 F (39 C). Keep from freezing. Store away from heat. Freeze-thaw cycle may cause a temporary water separation that can be corrected by mechanical agitation. The product may separate during long term storage. If the product has noticeably separated, mechanical agitation can be used to achieve a uniform dispersion. At temperatures above 102 F (39 C), the active ingredient in the aqueous dispersion may separate out. Temperature changes may alter viscosity, but should not affect handling or performance. Application Tektamer 38 A.D. is a biocide based on the antimicrobial active ingredient dibromodicyanobutane. It is a full spectrum biocide and can be used in controlling bacteria, mold and yeasts. Tektamer 38 A.D. is a white to off-white dispersion. Tektamer 38 A.D. is best used as a biocide in products that have a ph ranging from acidic to weakly alkaline. This makes it possible for Tektamer 38 A.D. to be added at various stages of the production process. In case higher temperatures (> 140 F/60 C) or ph values > 9 are to be expected in subsequent processing stages, the product should be added later, since under such conditions Tektamer 38 A.D. may be subject to accelerated degradation. Tektamer 38 A.D. is compatible with most formulation components (raw materials, additives). However, the presence of strong nucleophiles such as sulfurous compounds (hydrogen sulfite, mercaptans, etc.) or amines can cause ineffectiveness. To obtain reliable and reproducible results, homogeneous distribution in the materials to be protected must be ensured by taking suitable measures in production (stirring, agitating, etc.). As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability. Material compatibility For the handling of Tektamer 38 A.D. it is recommended to use plastics wherever possible for the required equipment (stirrers, hoses, containers, seals, pump parts, etc.). When using metallic materials, their corrosion resistance must be tested prior to using Tektamer 38 A.D. Tektamer 38 A.D. is compatible with materials such as PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, Tygon, Teflon and glass. Tektamer 38 A.D. is corrosive to mild steel. Positive displacement pumps are preferred for handling and dosing the product. As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability. Page 5 of 9: This document contains important information and must be read in its entirety. 5/9

Directions for use It is a violation of U.S. Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Tektamer 38 A.D. is an effective preservative in many compositions. The quantities required to give protection depend on several factors, particularly the nature and the sensitivity of the products to be preserved, the ph value, the initial microbial content, the extent of expected contact with microorganisms and the envisaged duration of storage. The quantity of biocide required can be optimized by taking additional hygienic measures during production, storage and transport. On account of the numerous preservation problems that occur in practice, it is recommended to conduct trials at different concentrations in order to test compatibility, stability and biological effectiveness. LANXESS Technical Service Laboratories can provide assistance with such trials. Typical applications, and the suggested range of concentrations on which trials can be based, are listed below: Application Effective Concentration Aqueous Paints 0.10-0.30 % Latex Emulsions 0.04-0.20 % Adhesives Polyvinyl acetate, styrene butadiene, acrylic, methyl cellulose Polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxyethyl cellulose 0.10-0.30 % 0.20-0.30 % Epoxy, polyester 0.04-0.30 % Dextrin 0.30-0.40 % Casein 0.40-0.60% Page 6 of 9: This document contains important information and must be read in its entirety. 6/9

Application Effective Concentration Dispersed Pigments 0.04-0.10 % Fiber processing fluids 0.20-1.20 % Inks 0.04-0.30 % Joint Cements 0.20-0.40 % Metalworking Fluids 0.10-0.40 % Waxes & Polishes 0.04-0.40 % Aqueous paints (including heating and air conditioning systems) Incorporate into the makeup water during the grind. Latex emulsions Add using moderate agitation immediately following the cool-down of the emulsions and prior to pumping to storage tank facilities. Adhesives Incorporate with agitation to the make-up water. However, where the adhesive is heated, Tektamer 38 A.D. should be added during the cool-down cycle. Waxes, polishes, and inks Incorporate with agitation into the make-up water blend. Dispersed pigments Add using moderate agitation immediately following the cool-down of the dispersed pigment and prior to pumping to the storage tank facilities. Joint cements Incorporate with agitation into the make-up water blend. Page 7 of 9: This document contains important information and must be read in its entirety. 7/9

Metalworking fluids Add to the final diluted cutting fluid, either prior to its addition to the system, or after the system has been filled. Tektamer 38 A.D. should be thoroughly mixed into the system to assure efficacy. If Tektamer 38 A.D. is added to the concentrate, testing should be done to assure compatibility. Fiber processing fluids Add to the make-up water of emulsions or to oil with agitation. For further information regarding applications not mentioned here please refer to the label or contact a LANXESS representative. As with any product, use of the products mentioned in this publication in a given application must be tested (including field testing, etc.) by the user in advance to determine suitability. Registration / Approval / Recommendation** EPA Registration No. 39967-34 U.S.A. The active ingredient in Tektamer 38 A.D., dibromodicyanobutane, is listed in the following FDA approvals (concentration limits may apply): FDA 21 CFR 175.105 Preservative for polymer emulsions used in adhesives.
