Click to view this email in a browser Tuesday 8th December 2015 TIME... the best donation you can make An exciting range of Short Term Volunteering Opportunities are available NOW for you to get involved in. Following is a selection. Get in touch if you are available to give your support or need additional information. Yvonne @ 01 202 2244 (Bray office) yvonne@volunteerwicklow.ie Fiona @ 086 325 8803 (Wicklow Town & Arklow office) fiona@volunteerwicklow.ie www.volunteerwicklow.ie Wicklow Hospice Foundation Wicklow Hospice Foundation are currently raising funds to build a Hospice for the County. As part of the on-going fundraising drive, a Remembrance Christmas Tree will be placed in The Bridgewater Centre in Arklow from Saturday 6th to the 20th December. Volunteers are needed to sell remembrance tree ribbons that the public will buy and place on the tree in memory of a loved one. Volunteers will be asked to give 2 hours of their time any day coming up to Christmas between 11.00am-5.00pm, but in particular at weekends when the centre is at it's busiest. Volunteers will work in pairs. Bridge Christian Community

Bridge Christian Community is a nondenominational Christian church based in Arklow. They run a free weekly meal service called the Loaves and Fishes Café, regularly serving over 80 meals to whoever comes in, providing a safe and welcoming place to come and eat in and have a chat or simply get a takeaway, no questions asked. The café has a team of volunteers from the church and local community. Christmas is a great time of celebration for most of us, but for many it can be a very lonely time. BCC is hosting a Christmas Day dinner for people to come and share fun, food and company. There will be a full dinner, games, music and so on, creating the atmosphere of a (happy) family sharing together, a mix of people from the church, people who often come to the Loaves and Fishes and anyone else who wants to come. We'd love some help just setting up and serving (12.30pm-2.30pm) and washing up (2.30pm-4.30pm) so that the cooks and people who regularly serve at the café can concentrate on spending time with everyone there. Volunteers will, of course, get a meal if they want one and hopefully be able to join in some of the singing and fun between scrubbing plates. Dollardstown Cottage A volunteer driver with a clean D licence is needed to drive a group of elderly people from Dublin to Athy and back to Dublin. The Bus is Provided and Out of Pocket Expenses will be covered. Dates: The group of elderly people will be staying in the Athy area for 5 days over the Christmas period. Community First Responders Wicklow Town

Wicklow Town Community First Responders have recently installed two Public Access Defibrillators in Wicklow Town. These Defibs are for use by the general public in case of a cardiac arrest. While the Defibs are easy to use, many people are nervous of them and unwilling to try. We would like to develop a short film clip to place on social media, websites showing where the Defibs are located, how to open the case and the steps required to use the Defib itself. This clip would only be 3-4minutes long but the message must be clear & simple. First Fortnight First Fortnight Festival will take place from 1st - 22nd January. First Fortnight is a charity-based organisation with the express aim of challenging mental health prejudice through the creative arts. Volunteers will be required for a variety of tasks, different tasks may appeal to people with different experiences: 1. Volunteers will be friendly and approachable to answer queries about the festival and distribute programme. 2. Volunteers will also be needed to help set up a venue, e.g. chairs and for some venues sound or tech equipment before events under guidance from First Fortnight's tech crew. 3. Volunteers will also be responsible for distributing feedback sheets at each event and inputting the data to analyse attitudes towards mental health. 4. Social media and PR volunteers are also needed to help with First Fortnight's social media, PR and blogging. 5. Volunteers will also be needed to operate box office and ticket checking/crowd management at some events. Irish Cancer Society

The Irish Cancer Society is Argos' charity partner for 2015/2016 and they are kindly having a national collection event on Saturday 16th January to benefit us. We need individuals, groups, and companies to volunteer and donate two hours of their day. During their shift, volunteers will be standing at a designated location in their local Argos store helping collect funds. When volunteers arrive they will go directly to customer service where they will receive a t shirt to wear and a collection bucket. During the shift they will be walking around asking customers and those passing by the store if they would like to make a donation. At the end of the two hour shift volunteers will return the t shirt, collection bucket to customer service. Wicklow Men's Shed Wicklow Men's Shed is starting a new programme of classes/courses/training opportunities and are looking for volunteers who would be willing to run a morning group/class/course in any of the following areas: Computers, Art & Crafts, Woodwork, Metalwork, Pottery, Stained Glass, Cookery, wood turning or digital photography. The time can be any morning Monday to Friday 11am to 12.30pm and can run for as many weeks as the tutor needs. We don't necessarily need people who are qualified or can certify any courses - anybody with an interest and willingness to teach others their craft or skill would be fine. Any supplies needed will be provided by the men's shed. We have a lathe, internet access and kitchen facilities.
