FUNDRAISING TOOL KIT HOW TO SUPPORT CAMP QUALITY CANADA

ABOUT CQ DO ANYTHING, BE ANYTHING, ACHIEVE EVERYTHING Camp Quality Canada is a volunteer driven charitable non-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of life for children affected by cancer through camps, and year round family support programs. Our goal is to provide uplifting experiences for kids with cancer through our programming. Founded in Australia in 1983, Camp Quality was established in Canada in 1988. Since that time, we have grown to six overnight camps in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta, a leadership training camp for teens, an outdoor adventure experience for young adults, and a community education puppet program. Our camps are free and offered to children with cancer, and their siblings, ages 4-18. Our unique camping experience provides each camper with a companion who ensures not only that their week long experience is fun, inspiring and challenging, but also that their unique medical needs are met. It is our mission that each camper is encouraged to explore new and exciting activities, make friends, build their self-confidence, and gain memories that will last a lifetime. To find out more, visit www.campquality.org

WHY SUPPORT CQ? THE CAMP EXPERIENCE has been shown to provide significant benefits to kids with cancer by improving quality of life. This goes beyond the fun and laughter intrinsic to summer camp. For our campers, this includes taking on physical challenges, building self-confidence, reinforcing autonomy, boosting emotional stability, developing social skills and making new friends; people who can relate to each other because of their shared experience of cancer. THE FUNDS YOU RAISE SUPPORT OUR CAMPS AND YEAR-ROUND FAMILY PROGRAMMING. OUR PUPPET PROGRAM is an education program for school age children grades K-8. Using four life size puppets, volunteer puppet teams visit schools to teach children about cancer and its effects, and how good friends can be supportive to friends returning to school after treatment. In addition to discussing cancer, the puppets teach the virtues of kindness, courage and compassion universal life lessons for all children.

TESTIMONIALS I have been going to camp for 2 years now and it is absolutely amazing! It s a place where you can make new friends and be yourself and just have fun. I love being on the calm peaceful lake in the morning, hearing the loons and bullfrogs, and even spotting animals. The people are amazing at CQ I consider them my second family and look forward to coming back and seeing everyone each year. CQ Camper With the effects of treatment it was plain to see our son s selfconfidence and self-esteem disappearing. Then Camp Quality came into his life, all our lives. He is developing quite a sense of humour and his cheeky grin has returned. CQ Camper Parent

WHERE THE MONEY GOES THE MONEY YOU RAISE HELPS SEND CHILDREN AFFECTED BY CANCER TO CAMP! The average cost of sending a child to CAMP is $1,500. And since we rely on the support of volunteers to help us run these camps, we need to cover the cost of training them and having them at camp too! In addition to camp week, each of our six camps in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario also hold Family Fun Days and/or reunions throughout the year to ensure that families, campers and volunteers come together and connect beyond a single week in the summer. We regularly see that once a child become a part of the CQ Family, a bond forms and one week at camp just isn t enough! Our PUPPET TEAMS also require financial support to cover the cost of travel, promotional and resource materials. These teams are active in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario and reach 23,000 elementary students each year!

HOW TO HELP THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CAMP QUALITY! HOST AN EVENT Golf Tournament Super Bowl party Dinner Party Dance-a-thon Bake-off Bowl-a-thon Garage sale Car wash Silent auction Book club Karaoke night Community fair Pledge-driven challenges

TIPS FOR PLANNING A GREAT EVENT CREATE A PLAN GET IN TOUCH What is my fabulous event? How will I raise money? How to spread the word about your event? Which venue will you choose? What is the date? Need help organizing and promoting? Let us know about your event before you start planning so that we can do whatever we can to support your efforts! SET GOALS COLLECTING FUNDS Not only is helping to send a kid to camp motivation to raise funds, so is a fundraising goal! Set your goal and then do whatever it takes to reach it. If you are collecting donations or pledges for your event be sure to collect complete donor information (see Policy section below for information re tax receipting). Cheques should be made out to Camp Quality Canada. SET A BUDGET SEND US YOUR FEEDBACK! While it s nice to think that everyone is as keen as you are to support Camp Quality, a budget accounts for costs that can t be avoided and will help you to track the net proceeds (the amount of funds left after you pay your bills!) of your event. We want to hear about all your success! Submit your event photos to us, and let us know how you did oh and don t forget to send us the cheque ;) If you are interested in supporting a specific camp with your event, just let us know and your gift will be directed accordingly. Please note that a portion of all donations will support services and programs benefitting all CQ families nationally.

IF EVENTS AREN T YOUR THING HERE ARE SOME OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT CQ DO ANYTHING You can help Camp Quality by giving up your birthday, anniversary, or whatever celebration you wish by asking your friends or guests to make a donation in lieu of gifts! Visit their site (http://mabelslabels.com/support-a-fundraiser) and simply select us from the drop down list of camps and feel good knowing that you re helping support our work with every order! Any use of the Camp Quality logo must be approved by a member of Camp Quality staff. Licenses, Lotteries and Raffles Some activities may require special licenses (i.e Special Occasion Permits), please confirm with your venue. Please note that Camp Quality will not apply for Special Occasion Permits for any 3rd party events. Liability Camp Quality assumes no legal or financial liability associated with 3rd Party Events. Safety Always check with your venue well in advance about their policies surrounding health and safety, accessibility, re exits, first aid, etc. Tax Receipting Camp Quality is more than happy to issue tax receipts for donations over $20. All gifts must meet the conditions defined by the Canadian Revenue Agency. Some important information regarding tax receipts: In order to issue tax receipts we must receive complete contact information for the donor (full name, mailing address, telephone and email). Our preference is to issue tax receipts via email in order to reduce administration costs. Please include an email address whenever possible. Only gifts of property are eligible for official donation receipts (for example, cash, computers, equipment).

Gifts of service, and promises of service, are not gifts of property, and are not eligible for an official donation receipt. Gift certificates that an issuer donates do not constitute property and are not eligible for official donation receipts. However, a gift certificate purchased and then donated does constitute property, and may be receipted at its fair market value. What types of transactions are not eligible for a tax receipt? the payment of a basic fee for admission to an event or program; a payment for a lottery ticket or other chance to win a prize; the purchase of goods or services from a charity; a donation for which the fair market value of the advantage or consideration provided to the donor exceeds 80% of the value of the donation; a gift in kind for which the fair market value cannot be determined; donations provided in exchange for advertising or sponsorship; gifts of services (for example, donated time, labour); gifts of promises (for example, gift certificates donated by the issuer, hotel accommodation); pledges; loans of property; use of a timeshare; and the lease of premises. Donated Auction Items We will provide business receipts or official tax receipts to donors who contribute auction items under the following terms: 1. Camp Quality must be provided complete contact information for both the purchaser and the donor (name, address, telephone and email). 2. If a receipt is being issued for a gift in kind (non-cash gift), it must reflect the fair market value of the gift. 3. If the fair market value is more than $1,000 the property must be professionally appraised by a third party (that is, someone who is not associated with either the donor or the charity). 4. If the property is appraised, the name and address of the appraiser must be included on the official donation receipt. 5. Gift certificates that an issuer donates do not constitute property and are not eligible for official donation receipts. However, a gift certificate purchased and then donated does constitute property, and may be receipted at its fair market value.
