COURSE DESCRIPTION The annual Practice of Internal Medicine course, celebrating its thirty-seventh consecutive year, is a postgraduate course designed to provide general internists, internist-subspecialists, family medicine physicians, and other primary care professionals with a state-of-the-art update in internal medicine. Lectures, panel presentations, and concurrent workshops are presented by specialists from Mayo Clinic. The topics represent some of the most common problems encountered in clinical practice including the management of a variety of medical issues seen in areas of gastroenterology, infectious diseases, general internal medicine, rheumatology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, pulmonology, endocrinology, cardiology, neurology, and women s health. COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to: Cite the latest advances in internal medicine based on evidence. Manage patients effectively with common disorders in internal medicine and medical subspecialties. Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course. INTENDED AUDIENCE The target audience includes general internists, internal medicine subspecialists, family medicine physicians, and other primary healthcare providers. CREDIT Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine has approved this live activity for 31.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. AAFP Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Other Health Care Professionals A certificate of attendance will be provided to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations. DATE AND LOCATION The 37th Annual Practice of Internal Medicine will be held May 9-13, 2016. Course headquarters will be located in Phillips Hall on the first floor of the Siebens Medical Education Building, Mayo Clinic, 100 Second Avenue Southwest, Rochester, Minnesota. Meeting facilities are easily accessible by skyway and pedestrian subway, which connect Mayo Clinic to shops, restaurants, and hotels.
