THE MISSION OF THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY Who We Are: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding a cure blood cancers. The Society s mission is to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin s disease and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. What We Do: Invest in blood cancer research The Society has invested more than $600 million in research since its founding in 1949.. Programs like the Specialized Center of Research (SCOR), which brings together teams of scientists from different disciplines for a collaborative research effort, and the Translational Research Program, which funds research with a high probability of producing innovative patient treatments in an accelerated time frame, have directly contributed to many breakthrough cancer treatments. Research funded by the Society has led or contributed to advances such as chemotherapy, bone marrow and stem cell transplant, and new targeted oral therapies such as Gleevec, considered the cure for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) and being used to treat other types of cancers. Blood cancer comes in all sizes Providing critical information and support for patients and their families the Society made more than 4.2 million contacts with patients and families last year through our Information Resource Center, our award winning Web site, and community-based patient services programs, including free education materials, family support groups, back-to-school programs and financial aid. We brought people together with experts through Web casts and teleconferences, and provided professional education through seminars to extend the latest findings to a broader professional audience. Blood cancer survivors and Society volunteers, Bill Lasher and Sam Eisenberg Why We Do It: The need is critical more than 894,523 Americans are living with blood cancers. Every 5 minutes, someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. Lymphomas are the fifth most common type of cancers and incidence increases with age. The survival rate for myeloma is only 33 percent and incidence is twice as high among African Americans as for all other races. How We Do It: As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations to advance our mission. Seventy-five percent of our total expenditures support cancer research, education, advocacy patient services programs.

WHAT IS THE LEUKEMIA CUP REGATTA? History of the Events: Since 1993, sailing and powerboating enthusiasts across America have raised more than $23 million to save the lives of children and adults with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin s disease and myeloma. Thirty-two Society chapters and 10,000 individuals participated in boating events last year alone. Noted sailing expert, ESPN commentator and non-hodgkin s lymphoma survivor, Gary Jobson, serves at the national chairman. Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club on Lewisville Lake hosted the first area Leukemia Cup Regatta in 2002. Sponsors and individuals raised more than $76,000 that year, making it the highest grossing first year regatta in the national event history. In 2004, a centerboard regatta was added at Corinthian Sailing Club on White Rock Lake. This series has earned its place in the top 10 highest grossing events among its national event peers. Combined, both of these events raised over $155,000 last year, making it the best regatta in North Texas to date! Event activities include a great weekend full of great food, and fun with fellow sailors all with a common mission in mind. Dinner, music and silent auction provide an exciting atmosphere on Saturday evening. The planning for 2009 is underway and we need your help to make this an event of a lifetime for all involved. The Time Is Now: The Leukemia Cup Regatta has grown to be the largest area on-the-water fundraising event. Become a part of the community spirit that abounds with sailors and powerboaters alike. You can join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the growing number of sailors, companies and organizations who are enjoying the thrill of competition while eradicating blood cancers. Participants raise funds and earn great sailing incentives. Those raising over $8,500 win a fantasy Sail with Gary Jobson! Dates for the 2009 Leukemia Cup Regatta: Friday, April 24-Sunday, April 2 Corinthians Sailing Club White Rock Lake Friday, May 1-Sunday, May 3 Dallas Corinthians Yacht Club Lewisville Lake

HOW CAN YOU HELP? Your support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society makes an immediate impact towards finding a cure for blood cancers and improving the quality of life for patients and families through patient services programs. In return, we offer some great marketing opportunities to a target audience. One of the differentiating factors in sponsoring the Leukemia Cup Regatta is that this campaign is comprised of weekend long events and depending on your level of sponsorship, offer exposure unmatched to one-day and other fundraising events. Support the 2009 Leukemia Cup Regatta and be a Lifesaver! Ways to Get Involved: Your company can get involved by becoming a cash sponsor and receive marketing benefits. Your company can become an in-kind sponsor making a product donation for one or both event weekends and receive benefits based on the value of your donation. You can become a sailing participant and raise funds for the fight! Your company can provide a product donation for our silent auction to help us raise more funds towards funding a cure. (please see enclosed sponsorship contract for information on marketing and promotional benefits based on your level of support) Participant Demographics: By supporting the Leukemia Cup Regatta you not only are supporting a great cause but also reaching a captive audience of active professionals to increase brand awareness, extend product exposure and drive sales.
