Conscious Sedation The aim of this programme is to provide an update on the use of conscious sedation for dentistry in accordance with the following published guidelines: - Standing Dental Advisory Committee, Department of Health. Standards for conscious sedation in dentistry: alternative techniques. London, 2007 By the end of the course the participants should: Understand the indications and contra-indications for the use of conscious sedation Know the principles of the use of intravenous sedation using midazolam and inhalational sedation using nitrous oxide and oxygen Be familiar with examples of useful alternative conscious sedation techniques Know where to obtain guidance on the use of conscious sedation techniques Craig DC, Skelly AM.
