At ABC we rely on the generosity of the public to continue our work helping those affected by eating disorders and related self-harm. That means we need YOU! Every penny you raise for us goes towards helping, supporting and guiding people towards a full recovery, meaning your good deed can really save lives. Money we receive from supporters funds our helplines for sufferers and their loved ones, our befriending scheme, our education programme and all of the resources we supply to schools, colleges, counsellors, health professionals and those in need. This is where you come in Please don t be afraid to come up with your own ideas and create your own totally unique activity! It s also filled with handy hints and tips and some suggestions for making your event run as smoothly as possible. Don t forget we re always at the end of the phone if you need help. WHAT TO DO HOME IDEAS - WHAT TO DO A clothes swap was a great way to spend an afternoon with friends dressing up, buying items and raising over 300 for ABC. Hannah (Clothes Swap) I m stuck for ideas... Got any good suggestions? Well, yes we have! Whether it s having people round to your house, holding something at school or livening up the office one Friday afternoon, over the next few pages are a selection of fundraising ideas that should get you started. What you can do It was so easy to invite friends to a lunch. We sold raffle tickets for a hamper and held a simple auction of donated gifts. Susan (Ladies' Lunch) Some key questions you need to ask before organising a fundraiser are: Will it be a big or small event? How much would I like to raise? Can I do it on my own? Who can help me? Who will I invite? What time will I need to set aside to organise and plan the event? Will any money be needed to make the event happen? How can I advertise my event? Do I need to check any legal or health and safety rules? ABC s Cuppa Tea campaign is a great idea. With a little effort baking cakes and making tea, we raised 170. Jenny (Cuppa Tea for ABC)

WHAT TO DO - SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND OFFICE SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND OFFICE - WHAT TO DO My company matched my giving, so our dress-down day at work raised 526 for ABC. Sophie (Team Leader) My school supported ABC with a range of fundraising activities from cake sales to face painting. Joe (School Fun Day) Our company put on a charity fashion show with gifts from local clothes retailers. Anna (Fashion Show) What to do: school, college and office These are great places to hold a fundraising event for ABC, because you have a ready-made venue and your friends and colleagues can get involved to raise even more money and help you organise it! Also you can advertise your event on notice boards and in e-newsletters and emails, even via the local media. Whether it s a dress-down day, cake sale, orange tie day, sponsored silence or a music concert, office party, or fashion show, you can liven up your place of work, raise awareness of ABC and its work and raise funds to support our services. Why not ask your firm to get behind your event and match your giving, or sponsor one of ABC s services for those in need. 7

WHAT TO DO - OUTDOOR EVENTS OUTDOOR EVENTS - WHAT TO DO What to do: outdoor events The sky s the limit! It really depends on how energetic you are and whether you re into walking, running, cycling, hand gliding, swimming or mountain climbing. You can organise your own sponsored event and set up your own Just Giving page on our website, or you can contact one of the many walking or running clubs local to you. If you fancy joining with others for an organised event then why not register for the London 10k or the London2Brighton Challenge where ABC has places already reserved. Some Suggestions: SPONSORED RUN, SKY DIVE, MARATHON, DOG WALK, SPONSORED CYCLE, ABSEIL, MOUNTAIN CLIMB, SPONSORED SWIM, PARACHUTE JUMP, CAR TREASURE HUNT Feeling even more adventurous and need a challenge? Visit Trailblazers at www.rockuk.org, a firm which specialises in outdoor pursuits for charities. You can walk the Great Wall of China, climb Everest, Snowdon, or Kilimanjaro or cycle across Asia and raise big money for ABC in a once in a lifetime experience.

ABC ANNUAL EVENTS Launch Reception House of Commons ABC ANNUAL EVENTS Seeds for Change abc provides professional advice and support for people with eating disorders and their families. Seeds for Change Eating Disorders Awareness Week This is a national event usually held in February or March, during which ABC raises awareness about eating disorders and the support needed for all those who suffer and their families. Our Seeds of Change campaign is the focus of this week and we encourage all our supporters to get involved in a variety of ways to set the record straight about eating disorders. We aim to reduce stigma and produce a change in attitudes towards eating disorders but we can t do it without you. Exchanging seeds for (loose) change via our home collecting boxes is one way of helping ABC make a difference for all those affected. Please check our website for details of dates and activity surrounding EDAW and contact us if you would like to get involved. www.anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk/donate November Action Month November is ABC s official Action Month where we aim to boost our fundraising efforts and get everyone behind our various campaigns and initiatives. Throughout the month we encourage supporters to hold fundraising events, raise awareness for our cause and back our calls to action, which could be anything from campaigning for an improvement of care to asking the government for a larger mental health budget. You can help us during this time by holding your own fundraising events, contacting your local press, signing our e-petitions and joining in with our planned activity. If you have any ideas of your own or would like us to consider focussing on a particular topic during Action Month, we d love to hear from you. There s no better time to get involved with ABC than November!

PUBLICISING YOUR EVENT I ve arranged my event. How can I spread the word? Talk to a Neighbour Word of mouth is a fantastic (and free) way of letting people know about your event. You can email them too. Be sure to tell your neighbours, friends and work colleagues - invite them to come along and take part. Let your Community know Use (or download) one of our Event Poster templates and pop them up where they will get noticed. Shop windows, public notice boards and reception areas or waiting rooms are all great places, but you ll probably need permission. My fundraising event was such fun! Now how do I send ABC the money? Thank you for supporting Anorexia & Bulimia Care. All the money you ve raised will go directly towards helping people affected by eating disorders. We have two convenient ways to pay in the money: Phone a Friend Why not phone up a local radio station. They are often more than happy to let their listeners know about a local event - particularly one which helps a worthy cause. Shout it to the World! Social media is an invaluable tool, with just a few clicks you can let the whole world know! Why not create a JustGiving page for your event on our website, or send us a message with your event details and we ll help publicise it for you on Facebook and Twitter. ONLINE You can submit the money raised by visiting our website and clicking the Donate Now button. This will take you to a secure, and simple online form where you can send it directly to us. Alternatively if you ve used JustGiving, then any money that you raise will automatically get sent to us. www.anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk/donate events@anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk BY POST If preferred, you can of course donate via post. Please fill in one of our Gift Aid forms if you are a tax payer, making all cheques payable to ABC, and return to the address below. Remember to include your name, event and reason for donation - so we know who to thank! Anorexia & Bulimia Care Saville Court, 10-11 Saville Place, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 4EJ
