A Physiotherapist means an individual who is trained and registered as a physiotherapist to promote physical health, and to analyze, make physiotherapy diagnosis for and certify, carry out physiotherapy treatment to habilitation or rehabilitate any form of physical condition and disabilities in order to restore or facilitate optimum movement and functional abilities of all physical conditions and bring about and restore optimum functional abilities. Definition The scope of practice of a physiotherapist shall include promotion, prevention, curative and rehabilitative. The role of the physiotherapist is to provide relevant services of patient and client care. The holistic management includes assessment of movements, structure and functions of body, identification of disabilities, plan and advocate treatment and re evaluate their condition. Besides, carry out health promotion and prevention through the process of screening, health education and providing domiciliary care.

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE: Diploma 3 Years (Aihmsa College) 1Year In the first year, students will study Core majors and basic subjects of Physiotherapy - such as Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology & Psychology. Anatomy 1 focuses on Bones, muscles, Nerves of the skeletal system and Anatomy 2 includes the introduction of the various systems in the body, Interpersonal and communication skills & Professional Development. Biomechanics and Electrotherapy are two major and important subjects in first year diploma curriculum. By knowledge of Biomechanics, a physiotherapist is able to understand the human body movements. Electrotherapy is a part of Physiotherapy treatment and student learns the treatment parameters of acute and chronic medical conditions. During this primal year, special emphasis is made to improve the English Language of our students. 2Year Few subjects of the second year are pertaining to application of physiotherapy in treatment of various body systems such as Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Neurology and Geriatric. In this year, students would be able to develop their analytical skills with regards to human movements and posture. It will improve their observational and palpatory skills. The students will be exposed to the various clinical and hospital setting and will go through observership. They will require to return to the classrooms for case discussion. 3Year In third year, students will be allocated to undertake a number of practical tasks in clinical postings. It allows them to have opportunity to put their knowledge and skills gained from theoretical studies into practice. In addition to clinical postings students are taught about the basic knowledge in special subjects like pediatrics & women s health. Clinical placements make students able to develop the patient assessment and treatment of various conditions. Each year comprises of three semesters each comprising of four months. Students will require to complete every Assignment given to them as the marks would be added to their final semester test that will collectively carry 60 marks. The final examination will carry 40 marks. Students will require to have 2.5 CGPA pointers and above in order to pass their subjects. Full attendance is a requisite as assignments can be given at any point of time. The college encourage students to stay in the hostel so that they will not miss their classes and may spend more time in the library. Clinical Postings: Involves in the clinical posting to health industry. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE: Bridge Degree Program 2 Years (Manipal University, India)** 1Year This course is carried out in Manipal University, India. In the first term of program, the students are exposed to Biochemistry, social science, ethics, administration & teaching skills. The students will be allotted a project guide from the department of physiotherapy and need to decide on a suitable topic under the project guide. The student will have to commence the project in the second term and complete it one month prior to the examination. 2Year In the second term of program, the students will be studying community physiotherapy, functional diagnosis, exercise physiology & exercise prescription. The submission of completed project is compulsory for the eligibility to sit for the second year examination. Students are exposed to 6 months of compulsory internship at the hospital. This is the time the student acquires the acumen and skills in treating patients with confidence and care. Clinical Postings includes: *Outpatient department *Orthopedics wards *Neurology wards and intensive care unit *Pediatric outpatient department and wards. *Casualty intensive care unit. *Medicine wards *Cardiothoracic surgery wards *Burns/surgery *Community schools. *Women s health clinic. All these will be carried out in Kasturba Medical College Hospital in Manipal, India CURRICULUM STRUCTURE: Masters Degree Program 2 Years (Sheffield Hallam University, UK) POST GRADUATION PROGRAM After graduating from Manipal University, students may opt to pursue their studies to undertake a Two Years Master Degree through Distant Learning Program(DLP) with Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Special arrangements are made to enrol for this program. Students are able to study while they are working. **All arrangements and formalities will be facilitated by Aihmsa College when students opt to pursue Bachelors in Manipal University India

Trial Results (SPM/O-Levels or it s equivalent) with 5 credit passes will be accepted conditionally, and upon obtaining the actual result, the student must fulfill the entry requirement for the program enrolled. 17 Years and above of age when registering English language proficiency - Pass in English (International candidates should have IELTS(6.0)/TOEFL(550) paper-based. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Special Conditions of admission will be allowed as follows: For students switching career from any Health Sciences subjects from any recognized Institute, and wishes to pursue physiotherapy can apply and have provision in subjects if having completed according to MQA requirement. Physical Handicaps/Challenged individuals may also apply for the program Acceptance will be with the approval of MQA through (Accreditation of Prior Learning Experience (APEL) but subject to acceptance by the Registry, the academic department and the Academic Board which will look into case by case on the severity of the Disability and available facilities at the college If need be, the applicant may be required to sit for an entrance examination and or produce portfolios of work carried out to prove eligibility to enter to this program. Special time will be allocated to fulfil the entry requirement

PTs play a crucial role in field testing the vaccine prior to mass distribution, and in continued treatment of children afflicted with polio.
