MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET SODIUM BROMIDE SOLUTION January 2017 A. GENERAL INFORMATION Trade Name (Common Name or Synonym) - Sodium Bromide, Liquid Sodium Bromide B. COMPOSITION INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS CAS. Reg. No. Approx % Sodium Bromide 7647-15-6 40-46% Water 54-60% C. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION APPEARANCE AND ODOUR: EYE: SKIN: Clear liquid. May cause irritation of eyes with redness and/or pain and superficial injury. Additional effects may include tearing and eye discharge. Effects may be slow to heal. Short single exposure is not likely to cause significant skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin irritation, even a burn. May cause more severe response if confined to skin or skin is abraded (scratched or cut). Material may be handled at elevated temperatures; contact with heated material may cause thermal burns. A single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts. Not classified as corrosive with TDG Act and Regulations. INGESTION: INHALATION: SYSTEMATIC (OTHER TARGET ORGAN) EFFECTS: Single dose oral toxicity is believed to be low. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling procedures are not likely to cause injury; Ingestion may cause vomiting, digestive disorders, high blood pressure, headache, kidney damage, paralysis and coma. Vapors are unlikely due to physical properties. Mists may cause irritation to upper respiratory tract. No relevant information found.

D. FIRST AID EYES: Irrigate with flowing water immediately and continuously for 15 minutes. Contact medical personnel (if required). SKIN: INGESTION: INHALATION: NOTES TO PHYSICIAN: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash affected area with soap or mild detergent, and large amounts of water. In cases of burns, cover lightly with sterile, dry dressing. Get medical attention immediately. Do not attempt to give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention immediately. Remove to fresh air if effects occur. Consult a physician. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Antidote should be administered by qualified medical personnel. No specific antidote for sodium bromide had been recommended. The following antidote has been recommended for bromide poisoning. However, the decision as to whether the severity of poisoning requires administration of any antidote and actual dose required should be made by qualified medical personnel. Bromide poisoning: Give sodium chloride, 1 gram orally every hour in water or as salt tablets; for severe involvement, in which oral medication is impossible, give normal saline, 1 liter every 8 hours intravenously to a maximum of 2 liters daily. Sodium chloride therapy must be continued until the blood bromine level drops below 50 mg/dl. Simultaneous administration of diuretics is also useful (Driesbach, Handbook of Poisoning, 12th Ed.). E. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES: FLAMMABLE PROPERTIES: Not Applicable. FLAMMABILITY LIMITS: LFL: Not Applicable UFL: Not Applicable. HAZARDOUS COMPOSITION PRODUCTS: EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: FIRE FIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS: PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRE FIGHTERS: Not Applicable. Dry chemical, CO2, water spray or regular foam. Use extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding fire. Keep people away. Isolate fire area and deny any unnecessary entry. Wear positive pressure self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full protective fire fighting clothing (includes fire fighting helmet, coat, pants, boots, and gloves).

F. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES PROTECT PEOPLE: PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT: CLEANUP: Isolate area. Avoid contact with eye and skin. May be a slipping hazard. Stop leak if it can be done safely. Wash exposed body areas thoroughly after handling. Use appropriate safety equipment. For small spills: losses incidental to correct applications of this product in its intended uses are not expected to be harmful to the environment. For large spills: avoid contamination of drinking water, natural water, ground water, or any waterway. Losses incidental to correct applications of this product in it s intended uses are not expected to be harmful to the environment. For small spills: contain spill if possible. Absorb with material such as sand, cement powder or fly ash. Collect material in suitable and properly labeled containers. Flush residue with plenty of water. For large spills: dike and transfer to suitable and properly labeled containers. Absorb with material such as sand. Flush residue with plenty of water. G. HANDLING AND STORAGE HANDLING: RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Product shipped/handled hot can cause thermal burns. Selection of specific items such as gloves, boots, apron, or other, will depend on each operation. If hands are cut or scratched, use gloves impervious to this material for brief exposures. Use gloves with insulation for thermal protection, when needed. Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure guideline. When respiratory protection is required for certain operations, use an approved air-purifying respirator. In misty atmospheres, use an approved mist respirator. H. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES APPEARANCE/PHYSICAL STATE: ODOR: VAPOR PRESS: VAPOR DENSITY: BOILING POINT: SOLUBILITY IN WATER: SPECIFIC GRAVITY: ph Clear liquid. I. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY CHEMICAL STABILITY: CONDITIONS TO AVOID: INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MATERIALS: HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Stable. Hygroscopic. None known. Strong oxidizing agents. Flammable hydrogen may be generated from contact with metals such as zinc or sodium. Avoid contact with sulfuric acid. May generate bromine gas in the presence of strong oxidizing agents. Will not occur. J. TOXOCOLOGICAL INFORMATION ACUTE: INGESTION (100%) : MUTAGENICITY: Skin: The LD50 for skin absorption in rabbits is >5000 mg/kg for NaBr. Local effects eye, mucous membrane and skin irritant. For NaBr, TDLO: 3,150 mg/kg, oral, 6 weeks continuous, rat LD50: 7,000 mg/kg, oral, mouse LD50: 5,020 mg/kg, subcutaneous, mouse For NaBr, in vitro mutagenicity studies were negative. K. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION ECOTOXICOLOGY: Based largely or completely on data for major component(s), material is practically non-toxic to aquatic organisms on an acute basis (LC50 greater than 100 mg/l in most sensitive species). L. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS DISPOSAL: Do not dump into any sewers, on the ground, or into any body of water. All disposal methods must be in compliance with all Federal, State/Provincial and local laws and regulations. Regulations may vary in different locations.
