Liaison Psychiatry Team Information for patients and carers Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
Who are we? The Liaison Psychiatry Team is a team of doctors and nurses who look after the psychological health of patients in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Patients are referred to us by staff in the hospital and we see patients on the hospital wards and in the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E). Could we help you? We meet people with many different psychological health problems, such as: Problems with worry, stress, or depression Difficulty coping with a physical health problem Problems with alcohol or drugs Self-harming behaviour, such as taking an overdose Eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia nervosa Postnatal depression Psychosis Dementia and delirium
What do we do? When you meet a member of our team for the first time we will ask you about your problems and how they affect you. We will give you time to talk about your difficulties from your point of view. We will discuss with you what help you might need, and what treatments are available. What happens next? Where appropriate we seek advice from other experts in the team to provide the most appropriate treatment package for individual needs. For some people, one meeting with us is enough to help with their problems. Sometimes we see people a number of times for treatment, particularly if you are an inpatient at the hospital. Alternatively, we might refer you to another service that is able to help you. We provide the most appropriate treatment package for individual needs
