CORNBELT BUC-ETIN President: William Hamann Vice President: J Balmer Secretary: Vicky Strauss Treasurer: Dennis Strauss Sergeant At Arms: Don Stogsdill Website: www.cornbeltambucs.org Bill McHie, At-Large Board Member Pete Hettinger, At-Large Board Member Jerry Wyrick, At-Large Board Member Larry Turilli, Past President Al Bedell, At-Large Board Member MARCH 2017 THE PREZ SEZ Hello all, Things started to pick up in February for Cornbelt AMBUCS. We built some really nice looking ramps, worked on building some new chapters, contributed some time and labor at the new Midwest Food Bank, and are prepping to make some scholarship award decisions. Please read about all that and some upcoming events below.

I look forward to a great spring. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, ideas, and the like. My mobile number is 309-826-4718 and my email address is william.hamann@gmail.com. 2 It s a great day to be part of AMBUCS!!! Regards, Bill Upcoming Events AMBUCS Central Region Spring Conference April 21-22, 2017 at the Northfield Inn & Conference Center in Springfield, IL. More information and to register... Pancake Breakfast Due to logistical conflicts, we ve decided to move our Pancake Breakfast from the Spring to the Fall. Be Content Senior Expo May 2 nd, 2017, from 9am to 2pm, at the Parke Regency Hotel & Conference Center in Bloomington, IL. Community Service at the Midwest Food Bank Don and Vickie Stogsdill, Bill McHie, and Bill Hamann donated some time and labor at the new Midwest Food Bank. We were able to explore the new building as we did some general cleaning in and around the building. I believe we all came away pretty impressed with the facility. This building should serve the food bank well or many years to come. I took some pics, but somehow didn t catch myself in the act of working! - Bill Hamann Next Saturday Event Next Noon Meeting When: Saturday, March 18, 2017 When: Wednesday, April 5, 2017 Time: 7:00 a.m. Time: Noon Place: Shannon s Restaurant Place: Monical s Pizza (by Best Buy)

3 Bill BucHie s Babbles Hey, all you ramp-builders - The weather has been changing.. cold then warm then cold then "I don't know".. and who knows what Mother Nature has in store for us in the next month. I do know that regardless of the weather, we are still building ramps. Let me show you a couple of great examples of our work that we completed in February. First, we built a 35 ft. ramp for a lady in Bloomington who has not been able to get in and out of her home. We pulled up on a Saturday morning, got our tools out of the trailer, finished a great looking ramp, and managed to get her in the picture at the end of our project. Nice work, AMBUCS!

Our second ramp was built for a family in Bloomington, as well. This gentleman has been using a walker for many months and will soon need to use a wheelchair or a scooter, so he gave us a call. We showed up on a Saturday morning, had great weather, plenty of volunteers, a pile of lumber to play with, and finished the ramp with plenty of smiles to pass along. Nice work again, AMBUCS! 4

5 Hopefully, Mother Nature will be kind to us this spring as we have several more ramps "on the books" that need to be built. If you have been to a ramp-building event with us, thanks for your help, and come back again! If you would like to join us sometime, feel free to stop by.. we can always use the help. And if you would like to be added to our e-mail list for future project notifications, let me know. I would be happy to add you name to our list of volunteers this year. Thanks for your willingness to help us make more homes accessible in the McLean County area.. and I'll see ya' at the next one! 6 Notes From Al... Amtrykes Again, not much local activity for Cornbelt Ambucs. I anticipate this picking up significantly as the weather warms up. However, even though we have not been busy locally, Cornbelt will be helping other chapters with bike days. Larry and I will be going up to Peru, IL to help the I80 chapter on March 9 th for their spring bike day. On March 25 th I will be in St. Louis working with several therapists and fitting about 15 kids for our Amtrykes. Both I80 and the St. Louis chapter are chapters we started. In April we will at the Central Region Spring Conference and then the following week we are doing bike days at the following locations which Cornbelt has sponsored chapters: Davenport, Iowa LaCrosse, WI Naperville, IL We also are working with a new group of therapists in Milwaukee, WI area. Cornbelt also received a very nice donation from Country Financial to assist us with bikes for kids and Veterans. As usual, please continue to contact me with any leads for potential Amtryke riders. Thanks. Al Bedell 2802 Hendrix Rd Bloomington, IL 61704 (309) 826-0405 Check out what our neighboring AMBUCS club is doing.
