HEARING PROTECTION The best, most trusted hearing protectors in the world. E-A-R is the most recognized family of hearing conservation products on the market today. That s because we see our business in a unique way. The difference at E-A-R is that we don t just sell hearing protection, we re dedicated to the success of your entire hearing conservation program. And we ll help you find solutions to any problem regarding the health of your hearing.

We ll send experts to your worksite to explain our products and how they work. We ll supply you with training materials including films, newsletters, and audio presentations. We want to make sure that your hearing conservation program is the best that it can be. In the end, we ll do whatever it takes to help you decide which E-A-R products are right for you and ensure their proper use. After all, what good is the greatest hearing protection in the world if it is not used correctly? The E-A-R name is synonymous with performance and quality. Whether you choose our famous Classic line, our reusable UltraFit plugs, exciting new E-A-Rsoft, or any of the rest of the E-A-R family of products, you can be sure that your hearing is protected by the best. And you always know it s E-A-R by the bright yellow color. In fact, E-A-R s yellow color is so distinctive, it s our registered trademark. We thought the best earplugs on the market deserved a look all their own. But it takes more than just the color yellow to be an E-A-R earplug. It takes quality and reliability. It takes frequent testing for dermal toxicity to help assure that our products won t cause allergic reactions or skin irritation. It takes testing in a facility accredited under the Department of Commerce, National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) to assure that equipment and procedures are in accordance with recognized American National Standards Institute (ANSI) procedures. We produce the most complete line of hearing conservation products on the market, and we feel confident that we can find the solutions you need. We protect more ears than any other company in the world. Take a look at the entire family of E-A-R products and decide what s right for you or your company. 1

It s the most popular earplug in the world. The Classic s timeless design has proven itself in the field for over 30 years, and its dermatologically safe foam provides a comfortable, effective seal while exerting little pressure on the ear. It s easy to insert and it provides great protection. It s the E-A-R Classic Foam Earplug. Offers the highest NRR available (up to NRR 33dB) Slow recovery PVC foam provides comfort with low pressure The yellow trademarked color, an exclusive to E-A-R products, is your assurance of proven protection and high quality Moisture resistant. Will not absorb moisture and swell like competitive smooth, contoured earplugs. Foam will maintain its comfort, fit and critical recovery characteristics Shape equalizes pressure throughout the earcanal as it expands; prevents shifting and keeps effectiveness of noise seal constant Flame retardant important for storage considerations Available uncorded or corded Breakaway cord protects wearer in case of machine entanglement Many packaging options available to meet user needs (including reusable dispenser, recyclable, biodegradable, and pulpable options) Pillow packs may be reused for convenience and storage Easy-to-use wall mounting dispenser boxes Metal Detectable version available 2

Push-Ins with Grip Rings - (NRR 30dB) Grip rings hold the plug in position for optimum fit and attenuation. - Shaped for comfort and protection. E-A-R Fact If immediately after exposure to high-level noise you hear a ringing, buzzing, or whistling in your ears (a condition called tinnitus), this is an indicator that the noise exposure was too loud for you and repeated exposures to such a noise may lead to a permanent hearing loss. 7

The EXPRESS Pod Plugs from E-A-R practically insert themselves; there s no roll-down needed. Just use the soft, flexible grip to push the plug into position and achieve excellent attenuation. The patented InstaSeal system assures the user of a great fit, while using less foam for a more comfortable feel. Because you don t touch the foam during fitting, it s the most hygienic earplug available. Pod Plug design eliminates the fear of hand-to-ear contamination by removing the need to touch or roll down the foam during insertion Soft flexible grips for easy insertion and removal Slow recovery foam inserts easily, seats and stays in place Less foam provides exceptional comfort, less pressure and less sound distortion Designed for excellent attenuation on the job Metal Detectable version available Patented InstaSeal assures instant protection and fit Available uncorded or corded Breakaway cord protects wearer in case of machine entanglement Reusable or disposable for a cost-effective hearing conservation program Laboratory tested NRR 25dB Packaged in convenient reusable pillow pack to promote reuse 8

E-A-R Fact When a noise is loud enough that you feel the need to raise your voice at a distance of 3 feet in order to be heard, the noise levels are probably above 85dB, and long-term exposure can be hazardous to your hearing. 9

The Commitment To Hearing Conservation A WORD ABOUT NRRs You can be assured that the NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) stated on all E-A-R labeled products is based on testing performed in a laboratory that is accredited under the U.S. Department of Commerce (National Institute of Standards and Technology) National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for testing hearing protection according to ANSI S3.19-1974 (American National Standards Institute). Testing to ANSI S3.19 is the procedure currently specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under their hearing protector labeling regulation. Most manufacturers recognize the value of testing in a NVLAP accredited lab, and insist on evaluating their hearing protectors in these labs. For your protection, insist on products tested in an accredited laboratory. Research has shown that NRRs are not a suitable measure of actual workplace protection. A better estimate can be obtained by derating the labeled NRR of any hearing protector by 50%. E-A-R is leading efforts to develop and implement hearing protector testing (ANSI S12.6-1997, Method B) and ratings that more accurately reflect actual workplace performance. Contact us for Method B data and additional details. E-A-RCAL SM LABORATORY Most E-A-R research and testing are conducted in the E-A-RCAL Acoustical Laboratory, a facility that is accredited under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), described above. The E-A-RCAL Laboratory also provides independent attenuation testing services. For more information, visit our website or contact Elliott Berger at 317-692-3031. THE HEARING CONSERVATION AMENDMENT The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has a set of guidelines and required components for a hearing program [OSHA (1983). Occupational Noise Exposure; Hearing Conservation Amendment, Fed. Register 48 (46), 9738-9783]. An E-A-R poster, featuring the Hearing Conservation Amendment, is available for posting in your facility. Contact us for this and other hearing conservation amendment materials. EXPLANATION OF ATTENUATION CHARTS ON FOLLOWING PAGES The following pages contain attenuation data for the complete family of E-A-R products. Understanding this information is the first step in finding the correct plug or muff for your needs. You may find the following explanations helpful when reading the charts. Mean attenuation values (based on U.S. testing) refer to the average noise reduction measured on laboratory test subjects under optimum conditions at the nine test frequencies listed in the tables accompanying the descriptions for each product. Standard Deviation refers to the variability of the mean attenuation values at each of the listed frequencies when tested to ANSI S3.19-1974. NRR is the Noise Reduction Rating as specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) when tested to ANSI S3.19-1974. Class refers to class designations based on octave-band attenuation values listed in Table 3 of Canadian Standard Z94.2-02. All testing conducted in an NVLAP accredited laboratory.
