PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR NTN in ENDODONTICS 2016 Suitability is based on demonstration of a sound foundation of knowledge, background experience and performance as a general dental practitioner; furthermore, the applicant should demonstrate numerous qualities, aptitudes, attitudes and attributes evident in the individual aspiring to reach a high level of clinical and academic excellence in their chosen discipline. The selection process will seek to evaluate the individual s desire, motivation and ability to learn, progress, and serve the broader community through specialisation in their chosen discipline. The characteristics include the individual s awareness of and intent about quality of service delivery, ethical stance, learning aptitude (in academic, clinical, and technical aspects), desire for deep learning and improvement of technical and clinical, preparedness for hard work through group and individual activities (for which teamwork and leadership qualities are essential), ability to multi-task, mental and physical resilience, and motivational drives to name a sample. Tests Practical tests (one & half hours) 1. Full gold crown preparation on UR6. 2. Cut an appropriately designed access cavity in a molar and locate all canal orifices. 3. Root canal preparation on a plastic tooth with simulated canal system. Critical reading test (one hour) Critical appraisal of two scientific articles related to Endodontics, written in a concise summary for each. The selection panel will seek critical analysis of the outcomes of these tests at their conclusion. 5
