Needs Assessment This educational program will review the latest diagnostic and treatment options for Tourette syndrome (TS) and associated co-morbidities, review updates on research into TS genetics and pathophysiology, and provide information about helping individuals with TS and their families navigate the educational system. The program includes an independent track for educators and families that will cover medical, behavioral, and classroom strategies for recognizing and managing symptoms, and will provide an opportunity for a panel discussion with local and national experts in the field. TARGET AUDIENCE TRACK 1: Physicians, psychologists, nurses, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals in the following specialties: adult and pediatric neurology, adult and pediatric psychiatry, family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics TRACK 2: Parents, family members, patients, school counselors, personnel, and other educators Educational Objectives At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to: List common treatments for tics in Tourette syndrome Recognize symptoms of and management strategies for common co-morbidities in Tourette syndrome Describe the most recent understanding of the pathophysiology of Tourette syndrome Recommend appropriate testing and accommodations within the school system for individuals with Tourette syndrome and associated co-morbidities Educational Methods Lecture n Case Presentations n Question and Answer Sessions n Panel Discussion Evaluation Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
