Joint Action as a precursor to the EU Compass Joint Action on Mental Health and Well-being (2013 2016) was a collaborative effort by EC (DG SANTE) and Member States 28 Countries; total of 51 partners Built on previous European collaboration on mental health Five key themes: Preventing depression and suicide, and mental E-health Mental health in schools Promoting mental health at the workplace Transition to community-based and social-inclusive mental health care Mental health in all policies

Joint Action & young people Role of the internet recurrent theme: + Potential as a mental health promoting and illness prevention channel - Tool that is beyond parental and caregiver control and can have negative impact, particularly on the most vulnerable. Internet and media-based PH strategies targeting young people can be very cost-effective: High accessibility Can reduce health inequalities created by socioeconomic circumstances? Efficacy and cost-effectiveness should be carefully assessed! Benefits and challenges of implementing E- mental health interventions for young people Case-studies digital interventions on youth mental health, e.g. SUPREME (multiple countries), AyeMind (Scotland) & Sekasin-Chat (Finland)

Aims of the EU Compass Establish a platform to monitor policies and activities in the field of mental health and wellbeing by Member States and non-governmental stakeholders Further the mental health agenda in EU Member States and instigate policy dialogue and commitment towards it
