For endocrinologists and specialists in thyroid disease National Training Course in Thyroid Ultrasound and FNAC Guy s Hospital London, UK British Thyroid Association

Course details Dates Friday Venue Robens Suite Guy s Hospital London Introduction This popular one-day course is for clinicians who specialise in the management of thyroid disorders. It is designed to teach very specific skills, namely how to perform thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration (FNA). It is predominantly aimed at those wishing to use these techniques as an extension of the clinical evaluation of such patients particularly in the context of one stop clinics. The course is an initial step and integral part of the national training scheme for certification in the use of ultrasound in the management of thyroid diseases by non-radiologists. It complies with the curriculum for training and certification for neck ultrasound by non-radiologists, drawn up jointly by the British Thyroid Association and the Royal College of Radiologists. The course will include guidance on how to meet the other essential components of the scheme, leading to full certification. The workshop includes the essential core knowledge required for Level 1 certification and includes sessions on the theory, principles and practice of ultrasound and its application to the neck and thyroid examination and biopsy. The course includes practical hands-on sessions in neck ultrasound concentrating on the thyroid gland. There is a specific practical workshop on ultrasound guided FNA. The course is endorsed by the Society for Endocrinology and British Thyroid Association and is approved by the Royal College of Physicians for 6 hours of CPD. Who should attend? The training programme is aimed at trainees and established specialist clinicians who manage thyroid diseases, particularly thyroid nodules, goiters and thyroid cancer. Course Directors Dr Malcolm Prentice, Consultant Endocrinologist for the British Thyroid Association Dr Jake Powrie, Consultant Endocrinologist, Guy s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust Dr Rose Ngu, Consultant Maxillofacial Radiologist, Guy s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust Format The course combines lectures and presentations with case studies, examples of good practice and Q & A sessions.
