the friendships big picture: building a strong youth volunteer coalition for a stronger community Members are expected to generate ENTHUSIASM and support for service projects, help create them, and recruit fellow students to volunteer. Coalition members create and implement region-wide service projects for our Seasons of Service Days. WHY VCYC? By becoming Coalition members, you are given a COMPETITIVE EDGE when applying for COLLEGE or EMPLOYMENT later on in life. You also meet and work with students from different schools in the South Bay, learn and practice marketing and LEADERSHIP SKILLS, receive special training from guest speakers, and become knowledgeable of the needs of your community as well as how to address them. THE ROLE OF A VCYC REPRESENTATIVE The role of the representatives is to ensure greater access to volunteer opportunities for everyone on campus, and to ADVOCATE FOR YOUTH VOLUNTEERISM by speaking to groups, etc. As a representative, you help to decide on regional service projects for SEASONS OF SERVICE DAYS and help implement them. Representatives from all schools are responsible for recruiting volunteers for these events.
Volunteer Center Youth Coalition Representative Responsibilities The role of the representatives is to ensure greater access to volunteer opportunities for everyone on campus, and to advocate for youth volunteerism by speaking to groups, etc. As a representative, you help to decide on 4 regional service projects for Seasons of Service Days and help implement them. Representatives from all schools are responsible for recruiting volunteers for these events. Representatives are expected to generate enthusiasm and support for service projects, help create them, and recruit fellow students to volunteer. VCYC members attend meetings once a month, as well as serve as Volunteer Center liaisons at their respective schools and role models to their peers by actively participating in community service projects. Attendance at meetings is mandatory. A maximum of two (2) non-consecutive excused absences will be allowed, then the school advisor is notified and the student may lose their position. Representatives are also responsible for reporting back to their high school activities director, advisor, or faculty representative, information regarding volunteer opportunities and VCYC events. Representatives will keep a log of their VCYC hours to be signed off by the VCYC Youth Programs Coordinator AND their high school faculty representative. We have 5 youth board and 2 committee chair positions that representatives can run for, as well as be a part of a committee. By becoming VCYC members, you are given a competitive edge when applying for college or employment later on in life. You also meet and work with students from different schools in the South Bay, learn and practice marketing and leadership skills, receive special training from guest speakers, and become knowledgeable of the needs of your community as well as how to address them. Meeting Information: Two meetings a month will be held at The Volunteer Center the first Wednesday (6:00-7:00 p.m.) and the third Sunday (3:30-4:30 p.m.) of every month (subject to change). In addition members will be expected to attend Days of Service (Make a Difference Day in October, Family Volunteer Day in November, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January, and National Youth Service Day in Spring of 2010, as well as other days planned by the VCYC committee).
