Briarcliff Bulletin October 2017 Rescheduled: National Night Out Join us Saturday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at the Briarcliff Park for National Night Out where you can meet your neighbors and have fun. We will serve hot dogs, baked beans, chips, dessert and drinks. The kids (and adults) can enjoy balloon creatures, two bouncy houses, cotton candy and snowcones! Chief Lou DeLira will be cooking, and the local Pedernales Fire Department first responders and representatives from the Travis County Sheriff's Office will be in attendance. With so many new families moving into the neighborhood, this is the best way to meet everyone. We encourage you to attend hope to see you there. We re also looking for volunteers for National Night Out and other events. What would you like to do for the fabulous neighborhood you call home? We love volunteers of all ages! The BPOA board is always willing to hear suggestions and comments on any ideas or improvements that you think would enhance our way of life in Briarcliff. All you have to do is attend a meeting or contact a board member or myself and let us know what you think. We d love to hear your opinions and suggestions! Monday Night Football! In case you missed the Monday night football watching party on September 25 where we watched the Dallas Cowboys beat the Arizona Cardinals 28-17, here are some great pictures for you! Briarcliff Players The Briarcliff Players are hard at work with their new production, "Trial by Jury. It will be presented in November (dates to be announced) at the Village court room. When the dates/times are finalized, you will need to call for a reservation as the room can only hold approximately 40 people. Bookmobile Schedule The Lake Travis Community Library bookmobile is at the Briarcliff Community Center s parking lot every Friday, 10-11 a.m. during story time and on the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. 12 p.m. View the Lake Travis Community Library calendar for library and story time information. Roads & Grounds The BPOA contracted with Legacy Landscaping again to clean up the back entrance of Briarcliff. If you haven t seen it, go take a look! Thanks again to Scott Dreisbach and his crew at Legacy Landscaping did a wonderful job. They are locals and we appreciate the effort put forth to make Briarcliff beautiful! If you see these guys working in the neighborhood, please stop and say thank you! Finally, if you are in need of mulch or would like to make a trip to the brush pit to drop off your own brush, please call the BPOA office at 512-264-1776 to set up an appointment. We cannot guarantee same-day appointments or delivery, but will do our best to accommodate you. 4 th Annual Poodie s Party The fourth annual Poodie s Party 2017 No Bad Days Golf Tournament and Music Festival was held on September 30 at Willie Nelson s Cut N Putt Golf Course. Chief s Corner Ban on texting while driving: House Bill 62 took effect on September 1 and prohibits drivers on public roads from using a wireless communication device (mobile phone) to read, write or send an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle unless the vehicle is stopped. The ban only includes text messaging. It does not include other usage such as internet, GPS for navigation or music programs. Reminder: When approaching an emergency vehicle stopped on the roadway with emergency lights flashing, you are required to do one of these two things: move out of the lane nearest to the emergency vehicle or slow down to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit (down to a minimum of 5 mph). In our community, slow down to a minimum speed. Emergency vehicles include police, emergency medical services and fire vehicles. Please allow the emergency workers a safe work space when they re on or near the road. BPOA and Briarcliff Police Department will celebrate National Night Out on Saturday, November 4. Please join us for refreshments and a day of fellowship! L.J. De Lira Briarcliff Police Department Mayor s Minutes This is the time of year to trim oak trees (until February 1). However, you must treat the cuts immediately. That doesn t mean later in the day, it means immediately. Let s all work hard to keep oak wilt from spreading in Briarcliff.
