If contact with the eye(s) occurs, wash with copious amounts of water for approximately 15 minutes holding eyelid(s) open. Take care not to rinse contaminated water into the non-affected eye. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Restrict access to area. Provide adequate protective equipment and ventilation. Stop or reduce discharge if it can be done safely. Contain material. Do not allow sodium carbonate to enter into sewers or water systems. Shovel or sweep up dry sodium carbonate for recycling or disposal. Neutralise final traces and flush area with water. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling Storage Wear appropriate protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contact. Avoid generating mist or dust. When diluting or preparing solution, add to water in small amounts to avoid boiling and splattering. Label containers and keep closed when not in use. Empty containers may contain residues which are hazardous. Store in tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place separate from normal work area. Store in suitable, labeled containers. Protect containers from damage or breakage. Store separately from acids and other incompatible materials. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Standards No ingredients in this product have exposure standards, as outlined in the standard Exposure Standards for Atmospheric Contaminants in the Occupation Environment third edition, published by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission/AGPS, 1995. Engineering Controls Engineering control methods to reduce hazardous exposures are preferred. General methods include mechanical ventilation (dilution and local exhaust).use local exhaust ventilation and process enclosure if necessary, to control airborne dust and mist. Personal Protective Equipment Clothing Skin Protection Eye Protection Suitable workwear should be worn to protect personal clothing, e.g. cotton overalls buttoned at neck and wrist. When large quantities are handled the use of plastic aprons and rubber boots is recommended. Natural rubber or nitrile gloves should be worn when using this product. Safety glasses with side shields or goggles should be worn as described in Australian/New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 1337, Eye Protectors for Industrial Applications. Page 3 of 6
