Needs Continued progress in the basic and clinical sciences, therapeutics, technology, and surgical techniques is leading to increased understanding of eye disorders and improved diagnosis and management. The purpose of this course is to update practicing ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists in training on the latest, clinically-relevant advances in the field and to provide useful, evidence-based information on the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic disorders. Target Audience Practicing ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists in training. Objectives At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to: Use intraocular lens (IOL) calculations and biometric data to improve refractive outcomes in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Assess the benefits and risks of surgical interventions for the treatment of patients with glaucoma. Diagnose the underlying cause of vision impairment in pediatric patients and manage appropriately. Apply evidence-based approaches in diagnosing and managing ocular surface disease. Apply anti-vegf therapy to manage retinal conditions unrelated to age-related macular degeneration (AM). Select and implement oculoplastic surgical procedures that can be safely performed in an office-based setting. Identify patients at risk for cataract surgery complications and implement anticipatory management strategies to minimize adverse effects and improve outcomes. Apply neuroimaging and accurately interpret results in diagnosing and managing neuro-ophthalmologic diseases / disorders. Educational Methods Lectures, Case Presentations, Point / Counterpoint Presentations, Question and Answer Sessions. Evaluation Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias. Accreditation/Credit Designation Baylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Baylor College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
