Cancer in situ Non-invasive cancer or cancer in situ Non-invasive cancer or cancer in situ is an early stage cancer in which the cancerous growth or tumour is still confined to the site where it started, and has not spread to surrounding tissue or other organs in the body.

The most common cancers There are more than 200 different types of cancer, but four of them breast, lung, prostate and bowel cancer accounted for over half of all new cancer cases in the UK in 2015. Critical illness cover pays out a lump sum if you are diagnosed with, or undergo surgery for, a critical illness that meets our policy definition and then survive for at least 10 days. We only cover the critical illnesses we define in our policy and no others. Our main cancer definition pays 100% of your benefit. Cancer excluding less advanced cases Any malignant tumour positively diagnosed with histological confirmation and characterised by the uncontrolled growth of malignant cells and invasion of tissue. The term malignant tumour includes: leukaemia; sarcoma; lymphoma (except cutaneous lymphoma lymphoma confined to the skin). pseudomyxoma peritonei Merkel cell cancer The following are not covered: All cancers which are histologically classified as any of the following: pre-malignant non-invasive cancer in situ having borderline malignancy having low malignant potential. all tumours of the prostate unless histologically classified as having a Gleason score of 7 or above, or having progressed to at least TNM classification T2bN0M0. malignant melanoma skin cancer that is confined to the epidermis (outer layer of skin). any non-melanoma skin cancer or cutaneous lymphoma unless it has spread to lymph nodes or distant organs

If you have critical illness cover you may be able to claim a lump sum payment of up to 25,000 or 25% of your cover amount, whichever is lower, if you meet our definition for the following cancers: Less advanced cancer of the breast with surgical removal Less advanced cancer of the prostate of specified severity and treatment. Upgraded Critical Illness Cover If you choose our upgraded critical illness cover you will additionally be covered for each of the following less advanced cancers.
