One in eight people over 65, and one in two over 85 will develop a form of dementia. In 2017, Alzheimer s and other dementias cost the nation $259 billion. In 2016, caregivers provided an estimated 18.2 billion hours of unpaid care valued at over $230 billion dollars. Nearly 60% of Alzheimer s and dementia caregivers rate the emotional stress of caregiving as high or very high; and about 40% suffer from depression. Alzheimer s & Dementia Services ANNUAL WALK TEAM FUNDRAISING IDEAS Thank you so very much for your support of Alzheimer & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana (ALZNI)! Our Annual Fundraising Walk is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Most of the ideas listed below come directly from our teams and their successful campaigns. We can t stress enough how important it is to communicate your goals, plans and progress to your team members and the people who are helping you reach your goal. Nothing creates momentum like knowing you are making a difference! Make and set out fundraising collection jars throughout your business. Form a team: Invite your family, friends, co-workers and their associates to join your team. Employee Incentive Days Create some fun for employees AND raise funds with events like Friday Jean Days in which employees can wear jeans on Fridays when they donate $2 or more (you set the appropriate amount!). Host a bake sale or ice cream social at work with the proceeds going to the team s contribution. Host a yard/garage sale with the proceeds going to the team s contribution. Team Competition Encourage team members to raise money with their friends and family by creating a contest with a prize (gift basket, day off with pay, special parking spot for a month, etc.). Be sure to report results often throughout the competition. Partner with a local restaurant (Panera, Chick Fil A, Five Guys) for a local fundraiser day/meal. Hot Cocoa Sale Have employees make and sell hot cocoa/tea/coffee. Skip A Meal Have employees skip a meal and donate the amount they would have spent on that meal. Chili Cook Off Host a chili cook off at lunch time. Sell the chili to employees and have employees donate to vote for their favorites. Create a large visual showing your progress and update it often. Place it in a location where it will be most visible to team members AND customers/clients. Matching Funds - Ask your organization to match the funds you raise. Ask your facebook friends to make a donation in your name/team name on our website at www.alzni.org). YOUR personal message will make a compelling appeal.
