Group Visits The home of the country doctor whose work changed the world

Welcome to Berkeley Situated in the heart of the historic market town of Berkeley, Dr Jenner s House, Museum and Garden is the striking Grade II* listed house where Edward Jenner lived for 38 years until his death in 1823. This is where he pioneered vaccination against smallpox, one of the pivotal events in world history. Less than 200 years later, smallpox had been eradicated, the first and only human disease to be wiped off the face of the planet. Today you can discover Jenner s work and legacy through artefacts and displays and find out more about his wide and varied interests, which included natural history, fossil hunting, music, poetry and hot air ballooning! Outside, you can explore an acre of peaceful grounds and stumble upon the Temple of Vaccinia, where Jenner vaccinated the people of Berkeley free of charge. Your visit Wherever your interests lie, we are sure you will agree that there is something quite remarkable about being in a place where history happened. Highlights of a visit to Dr Jenner s House, Museum and Garden include: Jenner s Study, where he wrote up his remarkable findings; The Temple of Vaccinia; A Physic Garden showcasing the medical practice of Jenner s time; Jenner s own grape vine. We recommend allowing at least 1.5 hours to make the most of your visit. Many groups prefer to explore at their own pace, but if you would like a more structured visit then why not book a talk or tour from one of our experienced speakers. We offer a range of benefits for groups: Discounted entry rate of 4.25 per person for pre-booked groups of 10 or more; Exclusive visits outside of normal opening hours (minimum admission of 75 applies); Free familiarisation visit for group organisers; Free admission and refreshments for your coach driver; Free coach parking at Berkeley Castle by arrangement; A range of pre-booked catering options.

Little extras Your admission fee includes entrance to the museum and garden for the whole day, plus a free 25 minute introductory video which can be watched as a group. However, your group might also be interested in one of our exclusive talks and tours. Introductory talk If you prefer a real person to a video, we can provide a 20 minute introduction to your visit for an additional 25 for the group. Lectures If your group would like a more in-depth look at Jenner s life and legacy we can offer a number of talks from expert speakers. Talks last for 45 minutes plus questions and prices start at 75 for the group. Please contact us for a full talks list. Explore the area New for 2018, we re pleased to offer a walking tour of Edward Jenner s Berkeley for groups. For 12 per person, your group will receive a guided tour of the town lasting approximately one hour followed by tea, coffee and biscuits. This all-inclusive rate includes entry to the museum (minimum 10 people in group, maximum 20). Or why not make a day of it and combine your trip to Dr Jenner s House, Museum and Garden with a visit to our neighbours Berkeley Castle and St Mary s Church? All are within walking distance of each other. Additional entrance fees apply for Berkeley Castle, please see www.berkeley-castle.com. Catering We work with trusted local suppliers to offer a range of refreshments for your group. These must be booked in advance and are only available for the whole group. We can comfortably seat 25 in our Refreshment Room. Larger groups may wish to divide into two or more sittings. Menu All prices are per person. Practicalities Edward Jenner loved entertaining, but he probably would not have imagined receiving upwards of 10 guests at one time. Therefore, for the enjoyment and safety of all of our visitors we ask that groups book in advance. Group rates are only available to pre-booked groups. Please contact us on 01453 810631 or email groups@edwardjenner.co.uk to check that we have availability.
