ITI Education Delegate s Address The International Team for Implantology (ITI) is a world leader in education and research in the field of dental implantology and has adopted this philosophy since the early years of dental implantology. Its mission: to promote and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of implant dentistry and related tissue regeneration through education and research to the benefit of the patient has been served for more than 35 years around the world and benefited hundreds of dentists and thousands of patients. In our UK and Ireland section together with our industrial partner, Straumann, we have served this mission, providing high quality, evidence-based, postgraduate education for dental practitioners at different levels of experience for more than 20 years with unparalleled success. We believe that postgraduate education in implant dentistry should be based on a clearly defined set of competencies that a dentist, nurse, laboratory technician and any other member of the dental team would need in order to practice evidence-based implant dentistry at different levels of complexity. For this reason, the UK and Ireland Section has developed the Foundation in Implant Dentistry entry course, designed to meet the GDC s requirements for a safe and predictable practice in implant dentistry. This programme together with our parallel programmes for dental nurses and practice staff will provide the know how for a successful start in dental implantology. Besides an evidence-based teaching philosophy, a modern competence based postgraduate course in implant dentistry must include continuity between theory and clinical practice. For this reason our carefully designed and quality approved mentoring scheme, has been designed to provide support and clinical supervision in your first implant cases with an extensive network of experienced clinicians and specialists around the country. In addition to our ITI UK and Ireland Section courses, the ITI Online Academy, a world leading e-learning educational platform in implant dentistry, provides a comprehensive implant dentistry theoretical curriculum of learning modules, lectures, clinical videos and case studies that are all peer-reviewed and updated with the continued evolution of implant dentistry. The ITI Online Academy also offers standardised courses and learning pathways that will guide users through the curriculum together with blended learning courses through ITI affiliated online campuses. ITI Education Weeks offered by well-established universities around the world, provide plenty of opportunities to fill theoretical gaps and introduce professionals to all recent clinical advances and innovations. I encourage all of you to visit the Online Academy (academy.iti.org) for details of how to sign up for a free account as well as the Campus tab within the Online Academy for details of our Complex courses and ITI Weeks around the world. The ITI UK & Ireland Section Leadership Team and myself are convinced that our 2016 course programme will satisfy your educational needs and help you build a solid foundation in implant dentistry. Dr Nikos Mardas Dipl.D.S, MS, PhD Specialist in Periodontics ITI Fellow and Speaker UK & Ireland Education Delegate 4 - ITI Education Programme 2016 UK & Ireland

SAC Classification Training courses are offered at three levels to take account of differing degrees of experience: Straightforward Level Advanced Level Complex Level To allow for an easy orientation on what treatment procedures are addressed in a particular course, the case selection follows The SAC Classification in Implant Dentistry *. This publication provides clinicians with a reference for case selection and treatment planning in implant therapy. SAC Level Classification of Surgical Cases Classification of Restorative Cases S The surgical process is anticipated to be uncomplicated, with minimal surgical risk. The anatomical risks are minimal. Minimal post-operative complications are anticipated. There is minimal aesthetic risk. A non-aesthetic site, where the aesthetic risk is minimal. The restorative process is expected to be uncomplicated and involves few steps. The restorative outcome is readily predictable. There is a low risk of complications. A The surgical process is anticipated to be more demanding. Proximity to important anatomical structures is likely to increase the difficulty of implant placement. There is an increased risk of post-operative complications. There is a moderate to high aesthetic risk. There is a discernible aesthetic risk. The restorative process may have an increased number of steps, but the outcome is predictable. The restorative outcome can be accurately visualised. The risk of complications is low to moderate. C The surgical process is anticipated to be complicated. Proximity to important anatomical structures heightens the difficulty and risk of implant placement. Surgical demands on the clinician and ancillary staff are high. There is a high risk of surgical complications. There is a high aesthetic risk. The aesthetic risk is moderate to high. The restorative process involves multiple steps, and the treatment plan may need to be re-evaluated as a consequence of the outcome of one or more of these steps. The restorative outcome cannot be readily visualised prior to treatment. The risk of complications is high, and multiple branching contingency plans may be necessary to deal with these issues. The long-term outcome of the restorative process may be compromised by these complications. Detailed coordination, communication, and sequencing of treatment procedures between the restorative dentist, surgeon and laboratory technician are essential for success. Patients must understand and accept the potential for compromised outcomes. *Source: The SAC Classification in Implant Dentistry, ISBN: 978-1-85097-188-7 by Quintessence Publishing Group 5 - ITI Education Programme 2016 UK & Ireland
