Inflammation doesn t just wreak havoc on the oral cavity; inflammation can be detrimental to overall health as well. How you take care of yourself not only impacts the mouth, but the entire body. Does Hygiene Have Your Back? Creating the Calibrated, High Performing Hygiene Team Rarely is it the intention of the hygiene department not to support the practice. More likely, it is a lack of calibration Between the hygienist and doctor. Experts agree that practices with calibrated, empowered and respected hygienists grow exponentially while less-calibrated practices struggle to stay afloat. High producing/high standard of care practices don t leave anything up to guesswork. Successful practices have mastered dentist/hygienist calibration by creating and adhering to standard of care documents that map out clinical expectations and parameters. Tapping into her unique experience as a seasoned educator, clinician and practice coach, Stacy McCauley s presentations offer a high-energy, workshop environment where attendees learn the skills necessary to implement calibration strategies in their practices. Utilizing case studies and small group interaction, Stacy will walk the attendees through a step by step system for diagnosis, treatment planning, case presentation and overcoming objections. Learning Objectives: Identify key areas of clinical inconsistency between doctor and hygienist. Conduct calibration training to enable the hygienist to tee it up for the doctor. Create standard of care documents to map out the clinical expectations and parameters. Learn a step-by-step calibration system from diagnosis to Yes! Suggested Audience: Full- or half-day Suggested Format: Doctor and team

Big Patients, Big Consequences Obesity and the Implications for Dentistry Obesity not only cripples health, but it also has crippling effects on the economy. Current estimates place a price tag of $150 billion in health care costs associated with obesity annually. Dentistry experienced a major philosophical evolution over 20 years ago when oral-systemic research first made headlines. This early research began to uncover how oral inflammatory conditions, such as periodontal disease, could have systemic implications (diabetes, cardiovascular disease and preterm low birth weight babies). It s only been as of late, that science has begun to look more closely at obesity and its potential influence on oral health. Utilizing her unique experience as a seasoned educator, clinician and practice coach, Stacy McCauley s presentations offer a high-energy, workshop environment where attendees are able to not only learn the what behind a topic but also the how of implementation into clinical practice. Using realistic case studies and small group interaction, attendees will learn why obesity is considered a risk factor for periodontal disease and dental caries infection. Participants will also walk away with strategies for how they can better equip obese patients with home care products for oral disease management. Learning Objectives: Explain the physiology of obesity including its impact on inflammation. Discuss the trends associated with food consumption and physical activity. Describe the oral consequence commonly associated with obesity. Make recommendations for oral self-care when treating a patient before and after bariatric surgery. Suggested Audience: Full- or half-day Suggested Format: Doctor and team
