CATARACT, REFRACTIVE & CORNEAL CLINIC Using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, we provide full-service specialist cataract and refractive services for our patients. Our ophthalmologists also diagnose and treat a range of corneal conditions. CATARACT & LENS SURGERY Cataract treatment involves keyhole surgery to remove the cloudy lens, which is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. Cataract surgery is the most common eye surgery performed in the world and has a high success rate. Our surgeons perform laser cataract surgery and, in some cases, can help patients get rid of their reading glasses by using the latest lens options. Cataract surgery is performed at Vision Day Surgery in Camberwell. LASER EYE SURGERY Laser eye surgery involves using a cool-temperature laser to reshape the cornea and correct vision. Our team of refractive surgeons perform LASIK and ASLA/PRK (including transepithelial PRK) and will advise which option is best suited to your situation. This will depend on whether you have short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism, and the thickness and health of your cornea. Free assessment clinic We offer a free, no-obligation initial assessment with one of our optometrists or orthoptists to check the health of your cornea and if your prescription requirements are within the treatable range for laser eye surgery. If you are eligible, you may then choose to have a consultation with one of our refractive ophthalmologists to undergo comprehensive testing and discuss your laser eye surgery options.

LASIK LASIK is the most common type of laser eye surgery performed worldwide. The surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a hinged flap to expose the tissue bed underneath, followed by an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. After reshaping is complete, the surgeon gently replaces the flap and the healing process begins. ASLA/PRK ASLA/PRK is a flapless laser treatment. It has a broad range of applications and is suitable for patients with thin or irregular corneas. For transprk, the surgeon uses the excimer laser to remove the top layer of cells and reshape the cornea. A bandage contact lens is then placed on top of the eye to assist with the healing process. This is usually removed 3-5 days after surgery. Other vision correction procedures For patients who are not suitable for laser eye surgery, our doctors also perform alternative vision correction procedures (e.g. refractive lens exchange, contact lens implant or corneal inlay). CORNEAL CONDITIONS We treat corneal disorders such as pterygium (Surfer s Eye), corneal ulcers, recurrent corneal erosion and corneal dystrophies. Our corneal specialists are experts in pterygium removal, corneal transplantation and intracorneal rings and inlays. KERATOCONUS Dr Tenen specialises in keratoconus a progressive, degenerative disorder characterised by thinning of the cornea. She has extensive experience with corneal collagen cross-linking. Early treatment with collagen cross-linking may slow or stop the progression of keratoconus. Collagen cross-linking is performed as an outpatient procedure in the clinic. Keratoconus patients undergoing collagen cross-linking are eligible for a Medicare rebate. All medical and surgical procedures have potential complications. Check with your ophthalmologist before proceeding.
