Post BLEACHING/WHITENING instructions The next 48 hours are important in enhancing and maximizing your whitening results for a long lasting, bright and healthy smile. Everyone s teeth have a protective layer called the acquired pellicle. This layer contains the surface dental stains and is removed during a regular dental cleaning or the whitening process. It takes twelve to twenty four hours for the barrier to fully develop again. To maximize the whitening, we ask that for the next 48 hours, you DO NOT consume dark or yellow staining substances such as: All Tobacco Products, Avoid Colored Lipstick, Coffee / Tea, Red Wine, lettuce & tomatoes, soft Drinks / Potato Chips, Mustard / Ketchup, Berries, Red Sauces, Soy Sauce, grape juices, Blueberries, Sodas Remember that you must not use any colored toothpastes or gels for the first 48 hours. In addition, do not use any colored mouthwash or home fluoride treatments. If your daily homecare involves the use of Perio Rx or Chlorhexidine, please wait 48 hours before continuing the usage of these products. If post operative sensitivity occurs, chew sugarless gum to reduce the peroxide levels, take an Advil or Tylenol, or what you would normally use for a headache, and brush with Sensodyne. Your teeth may be especially sensitive to cold air and drinks. Chewing sugarless gum helps in reducing sensitivity as it will reduce peroxide levels. TAKE HOME TEETH WHITENING TRAYS INSTRUCTIONS While bleaching or whitening your teeth, normal oral hygiene measures should be followed (flossing and brushing).bead the bleaching gel into your custom tray, using caution not to overload the tray. Insert the tray into your mouth over teeth and gently wipe any excess gel from around the edges of your tray, taking extra care not to leave any gel on your gums. Irritated gums usually mean you have used too much gel in your tray. Wear the tray for one hour the first time; you may use the gel up to two hours, twice daily for seven days. If the sensitivity is too uncomfortable, stop and reduce time and/or frequency. Usually sensitivity stops after several days. Do not rinse your mouth, since this may dilute the bleaching agent. Do not swallow the whitening gel. Never drink, eat, or smoke while wearing your tray. After completing the daily bleaching session, remove the tray and gently clean it with a toothbrush. Rinse it completely, and let dry thoroughly before the next session.
BRIDGE/CROWN/VENEERS Post Operative Instructions Your tooth/teeth have just been prepared for a crown/bridge/veneer under Local Anesthesia. Composite Fillings - Post-Treatment Instructions 1. Composite fillings set up hard right away. There is no waiting time to eat. Children should be observed until the anesthetic wears off. Due to the strange feeling of the anesthetic, many children will chew the inside of their lips, cheeks, or tongue which can cause serious damage. 2. Sensitivity to hot and cold is common for a few weeks following dental restoration. Usually, the deeper the cavity, the more sensitive the tooth will be. If you feel the bite is not correctly balanced, please call for an appointment for a simple adjustment. 3. The gum tissue could have been irritated during the procedure and may be sore for a few days along with the anesthetic injection site. 4. The finished restoration may be contoured slightly different and have a different shape than the original tooth. Your tongue usually magnifies this small difference and will become adjusted to this in a few days.
Post-op Instructions Arestin Periodontal Treatment What is it? Arestin is a bioresorbable gel containing minocycline (a tetracycline derivative) microspheres. It has been FDA approved for treatment of gum disease after a deep cleaning procedure known as scaling and root planing. How does it work on gum disease? When placed in a periodontal pocket, Arestin maintains a high-level of antibiotic right at the gum disease site without exposing the rest of the body to antibiotics. This allows treatment using one-hundredth the usual pill-form dose. It directly fights the gum disease infection for 14 days. How do I get the best results from my treatment with Arestin? Avoid touching the treated areas. Wait 12 hours after your treatment before brushing teeth. Wait 10 days before using floss, toothpicks, or other devices designed to clean between the treated teeth. Avoid foods for 1 week that could hurt your gums. Don t chew gum or eat sticky foods. After 10 days, resume cleaning between the treated teeth on a daily basis. Remember, you must do your part. After your Arestin therapy, if you don t brush at least 2 times per day and floss every day, then any dental treatment of your gum disease will not work effectively.
