Welcome Welcome to the first year of the Recovery College York. We are a multisite educational facility for recovery. The Recovery College York is a collaborative educational learning environment for people who use services, their friends and family, staff working in mental health services and volunteers. The college follows an educational model and aims to deliver a responsive, peer led education and training curriculum of recovery focused workshops and courses. At The Recovery College York we harness an holistic approach to recovery by looking at the whole person, therefore we also offer work opportunities and career guidance. All the courses have been designed with people who use services to ensure that they are truly person centred. The Recovery College York aims to bring people together to inspire individuals to move forward in their recovery journey. The college conveys messages of hope, empowerment and possibilities; it recognises strengths and celebrates successes rather than highlighting deficits and problems. We are passionate about equality and celebrate the diversity of everyone. The courses we provide vary in length depending on need, from one off workshops to courses that run for a number of weeks. People who enrol in our college are seen as students regardless of their previous experiences or other identities. Eligibility People over the age of 18 who will benefit from the recovery focus of the college Friends, families and carers Staff who work in mental health care settings People who are currently volunteers in mental health care settings

How to Apply The Recovery College York welcomes students from all backgrounds who identify with mental health issues. In order to ensure we are as accessible as possible we have kept our application process streamlined and simple. If you are interested in joining any of our courses all you need to do is contact the Recovery College Manager, Emma Harris. Emma will discuss the course options available and send you an application either by post or by email depending on what is best for you. Once you have filled out your application please return it to Emma at the postal or email address below. Recovery College York The Retreat York Heslington Road York YO10 5BN info@yorkrecoverycollege.org.uk 01904 412551 ext 2606 Peer Support We encourage all students to offer peer support to new and existing students as a powerful way of helping to provide a welcoming and positive recovery environment. We place value in experts by experience and as such will promote opportunities for students to become tutors and offer peer support. It is good to be involved and take part without the pressure of failure, a part of something positive

Recovery College Passports We offer all students the opportunity to complete a passport with a mentor, helping to identify goals based on hopes and aspirations and monitor progress throughout the recovery journey. The passport has been written by past students to ensure that it is accessible and meaningful. Resource Centre The Recovery College s hub at The Retreat provides a library and resource centre equipped with reference books, information leaflets and other learning materials. A comprehensive ICT suite is available with a variety of modern software packages and interactive teaching resources. As the college develops we expect additional resource centres will become available at York Explore and York St John University. Free wifi is available for independent learning. Fees, Bursaries and Payments Like all colleges, the Recovery College York has to charge for the majority of its courses in order to cover its costs. You will see the full cost for our courses clearly identified within the prospectus and when setting fee levels we strive to offer the very best value for money. Fees can be paid from a variety of sources including personal payment, Direct Payments, Individual Health Budgets and NHS/Local Authority contracts. Despite all of these options, we are aware that fees may become a barrier to some people attending the college and in order to overcome this we have secured a bursary fund from The Retreat in order to subsidise or fully cover the fee for those unable to meet the costs themselves. For students who will be making payments towards the cost of their course we expect fees to be paid in full at the start of each course. For more information about fees, the bursary fund or payments, please speak to Emma Harris, the Recovery College Manager.
