Inclusion North Bulletin Issue Number 114 19th April 2016 In this bulletin you will hear about some of the work Inclusion North is doing and information about what is happening across the country. Find Inclusion North on Facebook and Twitter You can find out more about all the work we are doing by following us on Facebook and twitter at: Facebook: www.facebook.com/inclusionnorth Twitter: @InclusionNorth Yorkshire and Humber Safe Places Sharing Event Safe Places is a scheme to provide safe places in the community where people with learning disabilities can go if they get into trouble or feel unsafe, frightened or bullied. We know that there is a lot of good work going on in Yorkshire and the Humber and will be having an event where people can share what is happening in their area. We have asked some people to tell us about their Safe Places schemes and what has made it a success.

There will also be time for everyone to ask questions about the different schemes so that they can support other areas and help improve their local schemes. We would like to invite up to 2 people from each Inclusion North member area to come to this event. You can see a list of member areas at the end of the bulletin. The event will take place on 30 th June 2016 in Leeds. To book a place, please contact Marie at marie@inclusionnorth.org or call 0113 2444792 7 Days of Action Care BnB 7 Days of Assessment and Treatment Unit (ATU) Action is a campaign to raise awareness of the thousands of learning disabled people currently being held against their wishes in assessment and treatment units. Find out about it at https://theatuscandal.wordpress.com/

Stay up Late has started a way for people to support the action. Often families have to travel hundreds of miles to visit the person held in the ATU. They have created a Google Map with the locations of the ATU and are asking for people to offer free accommodation to these families. If you can offer help to families visiting ATUs you can find more information here http://bit.ly/1qbwist Or Facebook message #CareBnB

CQC review of how NHS trusts investigate and learn from deaths The CQC is carrying out a review of how NHS trusts look at and report to learn from deaths of people using their services. This request is from the Secretary of State for Health as part of the Governments response to the Mazars report of deaths of people with a learning disability at Southern Health. The CQC will look at the quality of work that is done when identifying, reporting and investigating the death anyone in a hospital, care in a community setting or in their own home when services are managed by an NHS Trust. CQC s review aims to find out to what extent NHS trusts are learning organisations when it comes to investigating the deaths of people under their care and how well they support and engage with the families of people who have died. The work will be supported by Expert Advisors and involve families and organisations who work with families. Further information can be found by joining the online community here http://bit.ly/1qccfpl You can read the statement from CQC here http://bit.ly/1skrjiq
