14th Malaysian Association of Aesthetic Dentistry Scientific Conference Honorable Speakers: Dr Ronnie Yap BDS(Singapore), GDDP(UK), FRACDS(Australia) Dr Ronnie is currently the President of the Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and past President of the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore. He is also adjunct senior lecturer in the Restorative Dentistry Department of the National University of Singapore. He is in private practice where half his time is spent on clear orthodontic aligner therapy for adult patients and the other half on aesthetic and restorative dentistry. He has been an Invisalign Platinum Elite Provider since 2011 and is also founder of the Aesthetic and Digital Dentistry Academy which provides dentist with live patient courses and demonstrations. He has lectured in several Asian countries and has a keen interest in nutrition and sports. Lecture Synopsis: Marketing Aesthetic Dentistry in your Practice: Increasing Case Acceptance With the plethora of education opportunities available to dentist today it is not difficult to acquire new skills in dentistry. The average dentist today can provide much more sophisticated treatment modalities today compared to 20 years ago. However the challenge remains on educating patients on the benefits of modern aesthetic dental treatment and also on case conversion. In this presentation Dr Ronnie will be share what his practice does to communicate to patients the value of aesthetic services and also strategies on increasing case acceptance. Dr Subir Banerji BDS MClinDent PhD MFGDP(UK)RCS FICOI FICD Alongside his private practice in London UK, Dr. Banerji is also the Director of the MSc in Aesthetic Dentistry Program at Kings College London Dental Institute, UK. He is also the Head of the Continuing Medical Education Division at i2i Telesolutions Pvt Ltd and on the editorial board of the Academy of Dental Excellence. Dr Banerji has lectured and given numerous courses both nationally and internationally on the subjects of aesthetics, implants, fixed and removable prosthodontics and restorative dentistry and has published in numerous international peer reviewed journals and is involved in dental research. His areas of interests are in aesthetic dentistry, restorative, fixed and removable prosthodontics and the surgical, restorative and prosthodontic rehabilitation of patients with dental implants. His aim has always been to use his experience and knowledge to provide long-term, functional, aesthetic dental treatment and oral health care. Lecture Synopsis: 2017: Aesthetic Dentistry- The Challenges There is a growing demand from our patients to provide aesthetic alternatives for their dental issues and problems. A plethora of courses are run and undertaken by dentists 1
around the world on various alternatives and materials available to deliver treatment options. How does the discerning clinician decide and plan treatment holistically knowing which options to pick and the route most appropriate for their particular patient? Dr Banerji has over 25 year s experience in clinical practice at his surgery which he started in 1987 and over 15 year s experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dentists around the world. Using his cases as examples Dr Banerji will present his views, share his experiences and provide clinical tips to deliver predictable, ethical, evidence based and long term aesthetic alternatives and outcomes for the patient in a variety of clinical scenarios. From treatment planning, execution, maintenance and recall, protocols will be presented so as to avoid failure and achieve predictability - a recipe for success in aesthetic dentistry. Dr Firdaus Hariri BDS(Mal), MBBS(Mal), MDS(OMFS)(HKU), FICD Dr. Firdaus Hariri is an oral maxillofacial surgeon and senior lecturer at the Oro-Maxillofacial Surgical and Medical Science, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. He obtained both his dental and medical degrees from University of Malaya and had his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Queen Mary Hospital and Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong. He then had his craniofacial attachments abroad at various established craniofacial centres namely the Great Ormond Street Children Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital University of Oxford and Necker Hospital for Children in Paris, France. In addition to routine maxillofacial surgical practices such as oral implantology, orthognathic, jaw oncology and trauma surgery, his subspecialty includes pediatric craniofacial and reconstructive surgery. He is currently the coordinator for the Craniofacial Group in UMMC, the only multidisciplinary craniofacial team in Malaysia and also the team leader for Oro-Craniomaxillofacial Research and Surgical (OCReS) Group at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. Lecture Synopsis: Dental aesthetic in cranio-maxillofacial surgery: what more can we offer? Cranio-maxillofacial surgery is a subspecialized area dealing with isolated or complex facial defects. Complex craniofacial discrepancy includes conditions such as Treacher Collins, Hemifacial Microsomia and syndromic craniosynostosis such as Crouzon, Apert and Pfeiffer syndrome which often are detected at birth. As the preservation and rehabilitation of the functional issues namely mastication, respiratory, speech and visual contributes to the optimization of patients developmental progress, it is vital that any interventions are comprehensively planned and performed. As these patients grow, facial aesthetic component becomes essential as it is directly associated with psychosocial and behavioral development. Facial aesthetics involve normalization of structural discrepancy in which, dental aesthetic plays an important role. This lecture covers briefly how the role of dental aesthetic practitioners has evolved towards contributing to the field of cranio-maxillofacial surgery. 2
