Lumbar Plexus Iliohypogastric nerve (T12-L1) Motor: Transverse abdominis and internal obliques Sensory: suprapubic region Ilioinguinal nerve (L1) Sensory: genital region Genitofemoral nerve (L1-2) Motor: cremaster Sensory: upper anterior thigh Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (L2-3) Sensory: lateral thigh and trochanteric region Obturator nerve (L2-4) Sensory: distal 2/3 of medial thigh Motor: obturator externus, adductor longus/brevis/magnus (anterior) and gracilis Femoral nerve (L2-4) Sensory: anterior thigh and tibia (Saphenous branch) Motor: psoas major, iliacus, rectus femoris, vastus intermedius/lateralis/medialis, sartorius and pectineus
Sacral Plexus Superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1) Motor: gluteus medius/minimus and tensor fascia lata Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2) Motor: gluteus maximus Tibial nerve (inc sural, plantar nerves) Motor: hamstrings, triceps surae, deep posterior compartment of leg, plantar foot muscles Sensory: posterior calf, lateral and plantar aspect of foot Fibular nerve (inc lateral sural and branches) Motor: lateral and anterior compartment of leg Sensory: lateral thigh and trochanteric region
Femoral Nerve (L2-4) Motor: Psoas major, iliacus, pectineus, Sartorius, vastus lateralis/medialis/intermedius, tensor vastus intermedius (new muscle), rectus femoris Sensory: proximal medial, anterior and lateral thigh (cutaneous branches) medial tibia, calf and ankle (saphenous nerve)
Common Fibular Nerve (L4-S2) Motor: biceps femoris short head Sensory: lateral calf (lateral sural cutaneous)
Deep Fibular Nerve (L4-S2) Motor: Tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus/brevis and extensor hallucis longus/brevis and fibularis tertius Sensory: between 1 st and 2 nd phalanges
Superficial Fibular Nerve (L4-S2) Motor: fibularis longus/brevis Sensory: dorsum of the foot
Obturator Nerve (L2-4) Motor: obturator externus, adductor magnus (anterior), adductor brevis, adductor longus and gracilis Sensory: distal medial thigh and knee
Tibial Nerve (L4-S3) Motor: Biceps femoris (long head), semitendinosus, semimembranosus, adductor magnus (posterior), plantaris, gastrocnemius, poplieus, soleus, flexor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum longus and tibialis posterior. Medial plantar nerve flexor hallucis brevis, first lumbricals, flexor digitorum brevis, abductor hallucis Lateral plantar nerve - adductor hallucis, plantar/dorsal interossei, lateral lumbricals, flexor digiti minimi brevis, abductor digiti minimi and quadratus femoris Sensory: plantar surface of foot
