On a happy note, I wish to inform you all that I will be retiring as the President on Oct. 5th 2013. I have served the organization for the past eight years in Executive Committee position and we are on a solid growth trajectory. This is all because of your valued contribution in some form: time, expertise and financial support. And I have every reason to believe that you folks will continue to be an integral part of Mai Family Services. Now, as I retire, I urge you to get actively involved and be a TEAM member of Mai family Services. There are lots of opportunities to serve our community and I can state without any reservation that there is no better platform than Mai Family Services. I wish all of you the very best life has to offer and may Almighty be by your side when you need. Sincerely, Brij Mohta President

N E W S & V I E W S P A G E 2 Care Takers' Message Dear Friends of MaiFS, Mr. Brij Mohta, a devoted volunteer with Mai Family Services is retiring after giving endless number of hours for the past 7 years in his various capacities as Board Member, Treasurer and President. We wish him and his family the best as they move on to bask in the warmth of Florida. All of us at Mai Family Services are indebted to him for his compassionate service to our community. We will always call upon him for guidance and advice. The current Board members will act as a Caretaker" committee with Mona Sashital as the Acting President". We invite all of you to be part of a wonderful family" of volunteers where Teamwork continues to take MaiFS on a forward trajectory to provide support and direct services to our community members in need. We look forward to see you at many of our events and activities such as the Holiday Banquet in December, Walkathon in the summer and Chai with Mai type of events throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Kusum Rashid and Mona Sashital

N E W S & V I E W S P A G E 4 Call Stats Since the last newsletter in April 2013, we have served 53 individuals. On our helpline, we receive calls requesting for help with personal, marital, family, domestic violence, legal, substance abuse, other mental health related issues. The counselor at Mai Family Services was always available. I called her so many times and emailed her. She was always there to talk to me and support me. - Client, Ann Arbor Testimonial Mark your Calendar December 7th, 2013 Annual Holiday Banquet Dinner St. Aidan Activity Center Livonia, MI. N E W S & V I E W S Event Updates P A G E 5 On Friday May 10 th we held our annual Fund raiser program, Gulzar: Baat Pashmine Ki produced by Niche Entertainment of Pune, India. More than 725 people attended the event and help us raise our fundraising goal. Even though the program itself was disappointing, we appreciate the support from the community and the partnership that was developed with Maharashtra Mandal of Detroit (MMD). This program was jointly hosted by MaiFS and MMD. MMD has realized that MaiFS goal of building a stronger community through direct and preventive services is in line with their goal of serving the community through social and cultural activities. We commend MMD for taking this step and invite other social organizations to join hands with MaiFS. On Wednesday, May 15 th, we held a Town hall meeting with community leaders and business people, The keynote speaker was Ms. Kiran Ahuja, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. This event was to understand the Administration's perspective, plans and programs for Asian American population. The attendees had the opportunity to briefly share their own work and their challenges and a chance to meet and greet Ms. Kiran Ahuja. On Sunday, June 2 nd we held our 5 th Walk To Stop Domestic Violence Walkathon. It was attended by more than 170 people and help us spread the awareness about Domestic Violence and about MaiFS services. It was held at Heritage park in Farmington Hills. The event was a fun activity for the entire family with breakfast snacks, lunch, clown, face painting and water-splash for the kids. On August 10th MaiFS held its third annual Mai Bazaar at the India Day Celebration on August10,2013 at the Suburban Collection in Novi. It was a big success. We are grateful to our community members who generously donated their "nearly new" or "gently used" Indian party clothes to be sold at this event. Our dedicated volunteers spent count less hours collecting, sorting and preparing many beautiful Salwar Suits, Lenghas, Kurtis and Sarees for sale. Hundreds of visitors who came to celebrate India Day quickly snapped up these well priced and wearable clothes. There was a two fold benefit: the visitors to MaiFS booth felt rewarded for "shopping for a cause" and Mai Family services was the beneficiary of 100% of the profit. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to our donors and very hard working volunteers.

N E W S & V I E W S On August 10th, Event Updates P A G E 6 Varsity Lincoln and Ford Motor Company Chooses MaiFS as their Charity of Choice at India Day Varsity Lincoln and Ford Motor Company had game and exhibit booths/tent at India Day where they solicited visitors to test drive a Ford car and for every car driven, a cash gift prize was donated to Mai Family Services. We are thrilled that these companies recognize the importance of our mission and selected Maifs as the the charity of choice. We extend our sincere thanks to Ford and Varsity Lincoln. Volunteer Join Mai Family Services and make a difference. We are looking for active and passionate volunteers to join our team.
