Prizes To be eligible for a fundraising prize, all donations must be submitted to United Way by Thursday, September 18 at 9:00 pm. Donations are accepted until Friday, September 26 at 4:00 pm. NEW! Team Spirit The team with the most spirit (costume and cheer combined) will receive 20 free passes to Golf Dome for a round of mini golf. NEW! Participant Fundraising Prize Every participant who raises $50+ will receive a Plane Pull t-shirt. Team Steam The team with the fastest pull time in the DC-9 league and the 727 league will receive 20 free bowling passes to Dakota Bowling (DC-9) or Academy Lanes (727). Top Fundraising Team The top fundraising team will receive a Winnipeg Blue Bombers prize package. new! 10 pairs of United Way thundersticks will be given to Team Captains when they arrive at Plane Pull. frequently asked questions 1. When can I register for Plane Pull? Earlybird registration opens Friday July 11 to Top 50 workplace campaigns and teams that pulled in 2013. General registration opens on Tuesday, August 19 to fill remaining pull times. 2. How can I register for Plane Pull? a) Team Captain submits the Team Captain Registration Form to United Way (events@unitedwaywinnipeg.mb.ca). b) Team Captain pays the $250 registration fee. c) United Way creates an online fundraising page for each team and shares the login information with the Team Captain. d) Team Captain recruits a 20-person team (including themselves!) and ensures every member has signed the liability waiver. Submit all waivers to United Way at the Registration Table on Friday, September 19. e) Team Captain shares the online fundraising page with team members to begin fundraising for a chance to win prizes! Please see the Fundraising Tips page for ideas on how to start. 3. Is there a registration fee to participate? Yes, there is a $250 registration fee per team (only $12.50 per person!) that includes lunch, a chance to win some incredible prizes and ability to brag that you pulled a 90,000+ lb plane. 4. Where does all the money raised go? The money you fundraise for Plane Pull will count directly towards your workplace campaign s fundraising total for 2014. Your dollars will stay right here in Winnipeg and support an essential network of over 100 programs, partnerships and agencies which together address Winnipeg s most critical social issues. 5. Can teams select their pull time? Pull times are fulfilled on a first come, first served basis as teams register. We will do our best to accomodate specific time requests. We hope that all teams will be able to attend the full event, enjoy lunch and experience all the excitement that Plane Pull has to offer.
Fundraising Tips 1. Be a leader Before asking your peers, give to yourself! Once your friends, family, and colleagues see your commitment to the cause, they will be inspired to support you. 2. Personalize your fundraising page Tell sponsors why you re pulling! Share a photo and your personal story why did you sign up for Plane Pull? When you share the link to your page with sponsors, they ll see how you re helping to make a difference for our city. 3. Get social and reach out to your friends and followers You can share your personal fundraising page using social media by logging in and selecting the Get Sponsors page under Fundraising. Scroll down and click on any of your preferred social media icons in the Get Social section. Doing so will connect with your personal social media accounts and you can use the pre-written message or write a custom one. Your personal fundraising page will automatically link with the message as soon as you post it. 4. Connect with potential sponsors using email From your Get Sponsors page under Fundraising, you can send an email that includes the link to your personal fundraising page to potential sponsors. You ll find a pre-written message that you can choose to use, or you can write your own personal message. 5. Start a friendly competition You and your team are at your best when you are all working together to reach the first-class title of Top Fundraising Team. Set individual fundraising goals with your co-workers and challenge each other to be the first to meet (and exceed!) it. 6. Share your goal Set a realistic fundraising goal and talk about it! By sharing your progress as you go, most sponsors will donate more if they know you are close to reaching your goal. 7. Follow us on social media to get real-time event updates Check out our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram accounts to get real-time updates on the event. We want to hear from you, too! Share your fundraising advice and let us know how you re building up your strength to pull a 90,000+ lb plane. Write on our Facebook wall or use the hashtag #PullingForThePeg Last year I fundraised over $400 for Plane Pull. I forwarded an email created by United Way with all of the information about the Plane Pull to my mom, dad and brother and asked them to forward it on to friends or co-workers. UNITED WAY PARTICIPANT RELEASE AND WAIVER Name of participant: Age: Waiver of liability United Way of Winnipeg ( United Way ) has organized and will run 2014 Campaign Kickoff & Plane Pull for United Way (the Event ) on Friday, September 19, 2014. The Event involves participants pulling either a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 or Boeing 727 airplane. I know that the Event involves physical activity and I voluntarily assume the risk of participating in the Event. In return for my being permitted to participate in the Event, I agree to the terms of this release and waiver of liability (the Release ). I agree to this Release on behalf of myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns (the Releasors ). According to the terms below, the Releasors release all of the following parties, which together are referred to as the Released Parties : (a) United Way and its officers, employees, servants, directors, members, volunteers, insurers, and Board of Trustees; (b) United Way s agents, sponsors, and organizers for this event including their officers, employees, servants, directors, members, volunteers, and insurers; and (c) any other person or organization assisting in the Event. I agree that the Releasors will make no demand or claim against the Released Parties for death, injury, damages, or loss ( Damage ) related in any way to the Event that I suffer before, during, or after the Event, whether as a spectator or participant in the Event and no matter how the Damage occurs or who causes the Damage. I also agree that this Release will be effective even if one or more of the Released Parties causes or contributes to the Damage by fault or negligence. I agree that the Releasors will make no demand or claim against any other person who could claim against the Released Parties for the matters this Release covers. I also agree that the Releasors will indemnify the Released Parties against any claims, demands, or costs connected with any Damage others or I suffer arising from my participation in the Event, even if one or more of the Released Parties causes or contributes to the damage by fault or negligence. I understand that the party receiving this release receives it on behalf of every Released Party and that United Way s permission for me to participate in the Event is given by each Released Party in return for this Release. RELEASE AND INDEMNITY The undersigned, in consideration of being permitted to participate in United Way Kickoff & Plane Pull, and in connection therewith being permitted to enter upon the lands and premises surrounding 2280 Saskatchewan Avenue in the City of Winnipeg, Friday, September 19, 2014. (a) do hereby unconditionally remise, release and forever discharge Red River College Stevenson Campus Aviation & Aerospace Training Centre, (collectively the Entities ) and their officers, employees, servants and agents (collectively the Representatives ), and each of them from and against any and all losses, claims, actions, damages, costs, liabilities, expenses and demands whatsoever (collectively the Claims ) for death, personal injury, damage or loss to property and any and all other loss or injury, including, without limitation, economic loss or consequential damages (collectively Damages ), suffered by the undersigned arising howsoever from or out of my participation in this event, entering 2280 Saskatchewan Avenue or upon its surrounding lands and premises, whether occasioned, wholly or in part, by any act or omission, whether negligent or otherwise, including without limitation, gross negligence, on the part of any one or more of the Entities or Representatives; and (b) shall indemnify and save harmless the Entities and the Representatives and each of them from and against any and all Claims for any and all Damages suffered by the undersigned and/or any other person or persons arising howsoever from or out of my participation in this event, entering into 2280 Saskatchewan Avenue or upon its surrounding lands and premises, whether occasioned, wholly or in part, by any act or omission whether negligent or otherwise, including without limitation, gross negligence, on the part of any one or more of the Entities or Representatives. The undersigned acknowledges and agrees that this Release and Indemnity shall be binding on the undersigned and my heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns and shall ensure to the benefit of the Entities and the Representatives and their respective heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns. It is UNDERSTOOD that the party receiving this Release and Indemnity does so on behalf of each and every person and class of persons so released and indemnified and that the said permission is given or shall be deemed to have been given by each such person and class of persons as consideration for my release.
