We are very excited about our 2015-2016 year and your membership! We hope that you enjoy Haskell County 4-H as much as we do! The monthly Newsletter is a valuable information resource and will be very beneficial to your success in 4-H. Pay close attention to the articles and if you have any questions just ask! Contact your club leader or any one of us here at the office! Horse Panorama The 2016 Horse Panorama will be held on January 29th 31st. 4-H Members ages 7-18 and adult volunteers are welcome to attend. Horse Panorama is a compilation of various contests related to the Horse Project. Contests include: quiz bowl, hippology, public speaking presentations, photography, and educational posters. There will also be educational activities for 4-Hers of all ages. The registration form and additional information may be found at www.kansas4-h.org. Registration is due by January 15, 2016. Pre-registration will get you a ticket to the K-State Lady Cats vs. Baylor Bears Women s Basketball game, a game day T-Shirt, and a Hot Dog & drink at the game. CITIZENSHIP IN ACTION Registration for Citizenship In Action (CIA) is now available at www.kansas4-h.org. Youth13-19 years of age by January 1st of the current year are eligible to attend. The purpose of this event is for Kansas youth to learn how the state legislative process works and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in their local communities. CIA will take place in Topeka on February 15-16, 2016. County Project Leaders are Needed! Southwest Youth Leadership Forum Saturday, January 23, 2016 9:45 am 3:00pm Cimarron Fairgrounds Fee: $25 with a t-shirt $15 no t-shirt Registration Due: January 10th ALL YOUTH in grades 7-12 are welcome to attend! Registration form attached! We need YOU to share your time and talents with the 4-H youth of Haskell County! Project leaders coordinate workshops, answer individual questions, and provide guidance in their project area. We are looking to branch out this year and add new project areas. If you would like to be involved with our 4-H youth, please give us a call at the Extension Office #620-675-2261.

Area KAP Record Book Screening If you are 14 or older and a county champion in a project, you are eligible to send your KAP Record Book to the Area KAP for screening on January 14, 2016. Make the suggested changes and turn your book in, following the KAP rules, for each project you want to be judged in. The books need to be in the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. on January 13th. You are welcome to come by the office if you need help or for helpful suggestions! Livestock Show and Sale Committee Meeting The Haskell County Livestock Show and Sale Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Commercial Building located on the fairgrounds. This meeting is open to the public. Feel free to attend! This meeting is open to the public. Feel free to attend! Citizenship Washington Focus 2016 There are still several spots left to attend the 2016 Citizenship Washington Focus trip! This is a great opportunity for youth to visit their Nation's Capitol, visit with the legislators and participate in Citizenship Washington Focus at National 4-H Headquarters. We encourage you to sign up sooner rather than later as spots are going quickly!

Livestock Judging 4-H COUNTY CLUB DAYS Evaluation of livestock is an exciting and thought provoking experience. The ultimate goal of livestock judging is to compare your perception of an animal against the IDEAL and then to contrast your opinion with that of another individual or group of individuals. At its basic level livestock judging consists of two primary components: 1) placing a group of animals 2) 2) orally justifying your decision (reasons). Share what you have learned in your projects, play a piano solo, give an impromptu, perform a dramatic piece, try an instrumental solo or share a dance at Club Day or perform as a club with a model meeting or skit on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Sublette High School. Public Presentations: o Show & Tell - for 1st or 2nd year junior members o Project Talk - for junior members o Public Speaking - for senior members o Extemporaneous Speaking - for senior members o Digital Presentation o Demonstration or Illustrated Talk If you are interested in Livestock Judging, please contact Lacey as soon as possible. We will begin practice after Christmas break. o Readings Model Meeting o Model Meeting - club and 1 or 2 adults o Gavel Games - 4-6 members Dance: o Folk Step Dance (including line dances) - group o Square Dance - group o Other Dance - individual or group Dramatics: o One Act Play - group Shooting Sports Practice Practice will take place every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in the basement of the Extension Office. There are two sessions, the first session will begin at 5:30pm and the second session at 7:00pm.
