live your life. dm orthotics To provide pioneering research and creative solutions which enable individuals to overcome physical challenges and reach ultimate life goals. Martin Matthews, Managing Director dmo medical DM Orthotics are world leaders in the design and manufacture of Lycra orthoses. Our patented Dynamic Movement Orthoses are specifically designed for the management of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. We employ our own expert clinical team who are able to understand the specific needs of health professionals and their patients. DM Orthotics was established in 2005 and now distributes to over 20 countries worldwide. The company maintains a strong focus on research and development and has a single goal - to improve function and independence. For more information about DMO Medical products please see our product overview on the opposite pages.

I can do so many things now - life is so much more fun! dmo suit The DMO Suit is designed to align the shoulders, torso and hips improves symmetry and assists stabilisation to the body and spine. The DMO Suit is constructed from strategically placed Lycra and reinforcement panelling which provide the highest level of support to aid proximal stability and to positively affect muscle tone. > Proximal control > Distal control > Core Stability > Biomechanical re-alignment > Improved posture > Dynamic balance > Improved muscle function > Improved muscle tone I am far less conscious of my condition. I am so much more confident around people in public. dmo gloves The DMO Glove is designed to improve conditions which induce either, high or low muscle tone and tremor. Its unique design rotates the arm, abducts the thumb and maintains correct alignment of the wrist. A study on the effectiveness of DMO's on upper limb function for patients with ABI showed improvements in range of movement and overall function. (M. J. Watson, P. Crosby, M. Matthews - An evaluation of the effects of a dynamic movement orthosis on arm function in a late stage patient with acquired brain injury: Brain Injury, June 2007; 21(7): 753-761) > Thumb abduction > Improved finger extension > Wrist extension > Elbow extension (with full length glove) > Forearm supination > Improved distal function > Improved muscle tone > Increased proprioception > Improved overall function When my arm is at rest by my side it doesn t move by itself, it stays by my side. My arm doesn t draw attention to itself or me. The reduction in tremor has given me much more control over my arm. I have far more confidence in myself and my abilities. Michelle Dyson Multiple Sclerosis patient and DMO Glove user

"I love going on adventures. I no longer feel held back!" dmo shorts and leggings DMO Leggings and DMO Shorts have been developed to improve lower limb function and gait patterns, whilst increasing core and pelvic stability. A study on the effectiveness of DMO Leggings on the gait of children with spastic diplegia resulting from cerebral palsy indicated positive results. Statistically significant intervention-related improvements in gait velocity and gait consistency were identified. (Matthews M. J., Watson M, & Richardson B, Effects of dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses on children with cerebral palsy. Prosthetics and Orthotics International December 2009; 33(4): 339 347.) > Pelvic stability > Hip and knee extension > Reduced external/internal hip rotation > Increased proprioception > Improved posture > Reduced scissor gaiting > Improved muscle function > Pain relief I can definitely see the difference in her walking when she is wearing her socks. dmo socks DM Orthotics have two specialist socks DMO Dorsiflex sock and DMO Plantar Fasciitis Sock. DMO Dorsiflex Sock is designed to provide active dorsiflexion during walking and running. It is particularly effective in improving walking patterns for those conditions where reduced strength occurs, such as drop-foot and stroke. DMO Plantar Fasciitis Sock has been developed to relieve pain caused by Plantar Fasciitis. The sock's design mimics the effect of traditional taping and offloads the fascia where needed. It also provides dorsiflexion to stretch out the calf muscle to relieve tension and pain. > Improved walking pattern > Dorsiflexion > Increased proprioception > Enables range of movement > Pain relief

dm orthotics live your life. DM Orthotics design and manufacture a wide range of Dynamic Movement Orthoses. Our most popular products include: suits, gloves, shorts, leggings and socks. Each product is individually prescribed to the specific needs of the patient. We combine the latest CADCAM (Computer Assisted Design Technology) with traditional tailoring techniques to ensure each product matches their exact measurements. How it Works Our orthoses work using strategically placed panelling which positions the body into improved postural alignment. This new biomechanical state combined with enhanced proprioception, stimulates and adjusts the neuro-sensory system, training muscles to work with improved tone, strength and performance. Dynamic Movement Orthoses use Lycra which is soft, flexible and strong. There are many benefits to Lycra over rigid bracing such as: > Greater proprioception > Permits range of movement > Encourages muscle usage > Patient compliance > Patient comfort Our orthoses are created using a combination of materials to realign the body and influence muscle tone. > Lycra > Powernet Compression Our unique Lycra blend is used as the DMO's base fabric to ensure a close fit. This creates compression forces to enhance the proprioceptive feedback received by the brain and influences muscle tone. It is designed to give the best combination of flexibility and comfort, enabling muscles to be activated effectively and improve movement. Reinforcement Panelling The reinforcement panels are made using a Lycra Powernet blend. These provide strength and stability where required, improving posture and biomechanical alignment. As our products are individually prescribed, panels can be adjusted to the particular needs of the patient. Dynamic Movement Orthoses offer a number of physical benefits to the user including: > Improved posture > Pain relief > Improved movement control > Decreased associated reactions > Improved proximal and/or distal function > Enhanced function > Reduced involuntary movements > Enhanced therapy sessions Our products can be used for a number of conditions including: > Cerebral Palsy > Scoliosis > Multiple Sclerosis > Muscular Dystrophy > Stroke > Retts Syndrome > Hemiplegia > Spina Bifida > Quadraplegia > Hypermobility > Ataxia > Exceptionally high or low muscle tone > Dystonia For our full range please visit www.dmorthotics.com Follow us on twitter @dmorthotics

I can achieve what I want to now. My condition doesn t dominate my life it doesn t define who I am. Chloe Sharland management of scoliosis DM Orthotics have developed two specialist suits designed specifically for the management of idiopathic and neuropathic onset scoliosis. The panelling of the Scoliosis Suit works by producing counterrotational and counter-lateral forces. This re-aligns the body to improve postural symmetry and enhance biomechanical effectiveness. The best outcomes can be achieved when the Scoliosis Suit is used when curves are in their early stages, although good outcomes have been seen with larger Cobb angles. The benefits of using Lycra are: it is lightweight, flexible and is a nonrestrictive alternative to rigid bracing. This promotes compliance whilst encouraging muscle development and function. Research conducted into their effectiveness, found there was only a deterioration in the Cobb angle of >10 in 1/8 of patients prescribed with a DMO Scoliosis Suit (45% of total study sample). (Matthews M J, Blandford S M, and Freeman J A, 2013). Available in long and short sleeve Laterally moves the spinal vertabrae > Spinal curvature reduction by up to 50% > Management of spinal curvature up to 30 > Corrective spinal curve re-alignment > Full range of spinal movement > Sensory feedback > Encouragement of correct muscle function > Pain relief Worn under clothing Unique Lycra blend for comfort and movement Reinforcement panelling for strength and stability I have been using the Scoliosis Suit for about 3 years now - it's just brilliant! I found it really positive that the Lycra makes you use your muscles unlike a structured brace and it doesn't affect your appearance. The Scoliosis Suit has enabled me to stand more upright, improved my balance and given me greater confidence.
